選local school係以Chinese as first language作目標
選IS係以English as first language作目標
我有無理解錯?
至於有無學校真係可以做到double first-language?我諗就算學校有咁嘅課程,都要小朋友好有天分才可以。
On balance, after reading your posts and some further research I'm leaning more towards IS schools with slightly stronger Chinese teaching.
LS just seems too demanding on the child at such a young age academically that they may not get to fully enjoy it (assuming the kid is actually able to get into a 神校 or a semi-decent LS in the first place...).
Onto the practical side of things, regarding CIS/CDNIS/ISF/SIS:
What are the chances of an average kid (with good English) getting into these schools without a debenture/capital note or sibling or alumni status?
I've also heard some pretty negative things about ISF KG - what are people's thoughts?

Good thinking.
For ISF its vibe is more local school than IS, it’s popular among mainlanders due to its high Chinese level and it’s getting more difficult to get in now because of the 高才通influx. However its Chinese level hence efforts demanded is probably too high for your expectation. I knew at least 3 kids who left ISF because of the stress esp in Chinese.
The chance for a kid with good English and foreign passport to get into CDNIS is pretty high, for SIS and CIS you will need a bit of mandarin. The other to consider is VSA, but probably need to get into Vic kinder first to get priority. As a back up you may consider KCIS which teach high level of Chinese too. At the end it’s still the kid’s interest and family language predisposition to determine the outcome of Chinese learning.

What have you heard about ISF Kindy? Quite interested to learn more as I hear some parents prefer sending kids to the Academy without going thru its kindy. My neighbour's kids also go to ISF Kindy, so far his comment has been quite positive. But as others have mentioned, the school has quite some local school element, but overall teaching approach is quite IS, may be like CKY but more IS vibe.
Despite it is getting more difficult to get in now, it shouldn't affect local family much as the school seems to have certain split among PTH, Eng and Cantonese speaking family.
I think you're missing the point. The question in this thread is "Does attending IS help children master Chinese well". It's not comparing the pros and cons of learning at IS vs. local schools.
So, I just want to say that learning Chinese at IS is totally ineffective because the environment does not enable them to speak/write/learn/use/understand Chinese well. 緣木求魚。
Even for my close friends whose kids go to CIS and ISF, I have never heard them speak Chinese or read Chinese books. Just by observations.
