anyway, dunno why we r debating on the year of intake.
key point is: esf and fis are both good schools. just we prefer FIS as we match the values and atmosphere.
it is not difficult to get into both school as long as you have FP (at least in our cases)

Its perfectly ok to carry on your kids education and have him/her to graduate uni at the age of 23 instead of 22.

we didn't make our son to repeat one year. he is exactly following the same school year as those in the UK and majority of IS.
please take note to that before making judgement.
since you are not trying to make a discussion but to pass judgement before knowing the whole fact, this means you are just being rude.

For TKO campus , it is 97% for foreign passport holders.

Even if the kid is exceptionally brilliant, there will always be some as brilliant as you, non FR but with sibling priority

There are only 2 seats for non-FP in TKO. It is not determined solely by how outstanding your child is, but rather by other factors like alumni, siblings etc.

We should not judge anyone for letting the kid study one additional year.

Instead, we should embrace them for protecting the kid for one additional year.

When they are in the labour force, they are no longer protected.

They have to face work and pressure that goes with it.

This is not studying for an additional year, it’s just for those schools following British curriculum(FIS, GSIS, Kellet etc and primaries in UK), they need to cut off strictly at Sept.
It’s mainly ESF and a few IS that follow the HK cutoff at Jan that is making the difference. For ESF, it’s IB curriculum so it’s not the same thing. Eg BC teaches phonics at start of K2 but ESF will start later.
I have been to both systems.

I got you. Just when you tell people you have graduated at the age of 23, people assume that you have repeated for a year. Thats the misconception of people.
You can further explain how you graduate at the age of 23.

Sometimes when you get tired you dun want to explain nothing.

I don’t think anyone will really care at what age do you graduate from university, some students take gap year and some take dual bachelor/master degree which will take extra year too.

It is just an age cutline and very common among IS. Children who born between Sept to Dec are not repeaters and nothing need to worry about.

Can you be more open minded? I don’t get your point , why you keep arguing with ppl about this ?
If you choose to study in IS scheme
Please don’t judge people by your local concept .
But if you are the local Parent without FP , you really need to try harder to border your horizons! The world is big and yours  are way too small

This is how people think and ask during a job interview.
When you climb up the corporate ladder and apply for a managerial position, its a different story.

As i said, when being mistaken as a repeater, you should still remain calm and when having a good mood, you can try to explain how the IS education system works.

Sometimes, you just get tired and dun want to talk further.

Anyhow, you should not feel sorry about yourself and hold grudge against anyone for their misconception.

Life is a long journey, good luck and take care, fellow parent.

When I was in university , many of the students went for exchange program and graduated a year later than the normal cohort. In my career life, there was no employer or HR ever questioned why I graduated one year later than normal. If to give an example in more recent years, many local students would choose to be “big kid” to enter kindergartens ( may be coz of popular ones). So it is pretty normal to see students in primary/ secondary born in two different years but at the same grade. I may have missed some details but I can’t see any points should be argued. A very common practice indeed.

I try to comfort fellow parents when their kids being mistaken as such, its part of the life journey,

There are kids who went to elite schools solely due to their excellence in sports. They are banned to take any public exams due to their poor academic performance. However, they can continue to represent the school for sports competitions.

They eventually have to keep repeating and graduate at the age of 24 or 25 ( 2 to 3 years behind ).

Even so, its perfectly fine as its their personal choice and life !

Dont need to care about what others think or say.

Its difficult to hold a mature mentality but thats what we or even our kids have to learn,
