At the interview, the principal yelled at me and threatened to fail my son. Can you guess what did I do wrong?

I just asked her to let my son carry his portfolio into her room. I forgot to ask him carry his protfolio.

She said "I always tell other people not to submit portfolio, I want to test the childrens my way. I don't want to be led by your son's portfolio. I don't have much time to go through all the portfolios. If your son play with his portfolio, I will fail him (with her hand holding my son's portfolio swinging violently).".

Ok, She doesn't like to read portfolios, but don't yell at me. Don't threaten me in front of my son. At that moment, I swallowed it for my son. Now I want to tell her that she owes me an apology. I swear that it is all true. If you know the principal, I dare you to ask her. If any people think that it is acceptable then I have nothing to say.

Don't just believe in the past, take a closer look at the school now. My son was accepted by the school last week, but I don't accept the offer. Ask why so many students giving up this school. As far as I can remember, the first batch consists of more than 100 candidates.

Besides, St. Paul's College won't accept all students from St. Paul's Primary School. No through-train for sure.

Hey 馬田,

Which part you don't believe?  For the first part, I dare you to ask the principal. For the second part, you can browse the Ming Pao website.  The principal seems to be nice, but when you did something she doesn't like, she will become another person.  I have heard some unhappy experiences during the interview from other parents.

Show me your evidences to prove me wrong.  You can do your own search.

My son is studying in a much better school, peoples who know me know which school.  I don't need to play tricks to get a place in this school.

Rumours or Facts?
- St. Paul's Primary School has a very long waiting list to call, why?  The school needs to call parents in the 2nd batch, why?  First batch consist of more than 100 candidates, many parents know that.
- Is the Ming Pao's web page a fake one?
- St. Paul's College is not willing to accept all the students from her primary school, why?

BTW, are you a St. Paul's old boy?

I live in Tai Wai, it is far away between my home and the school. I have not any idea about the private school van and this is the main concern about the transportation time too.

Tomorrow I will go to the school again to review the enviroment and may be will let my son to chose.

It is true that its secondary school had a "not so good" period, but I believe that it is improving.  Please don't be so upset regarding your experience in the interview.  I believe if you followed thier game's rule, the outcome would be different.  

I'm not trying to defend for the school.  I also had a bad experience in my son's interview in a very famous kindy.  My boy cried during the interview, then the principal came out and said "he is so bad".  There were other parents and you can imagine how embrassed I was.  I told my husband and he just asked, "Have you ever seen 大蛇痾尿?"  Alas!  I learnt a lesson since then.

Thank you for your support.  Yes, some (not all)  principals of elite schools or so-called elite schools are arrogant.  They treat parents as pigs because we are asking them to accept our children.

我不是defend Paul Boys', 不過我覺得, 報得呢間學校, 家長多多小小都會對間學校有好感.   只係因為一次interview就"踩"學校, 未免那過.

像HuiTung說, 這是rules of game, 我舊年都有整portfolio, 亦有堅持想佢地收portfolio, 不過佢地唔收(如果我好似alexlui咁, 我都可以講哂間學校壞話, 亦可以同自己鬥氣唔去interview), 既然佢係咁, 我冇辦法.  校長已經講明(在去年9月明報介紹paul boys' 訪問校長時), 佢一個人面試小朋友係唔想有唔同人作唔同判斷, 亦唔要家長教小朋友背answers, 我好記得, 佢話要見小朋友真面目.  所以我準備了的portfolio也沒帶去interview.

paul boys' 中學水平的確比不上同區的king's, 收生亦不是100%收自己小學.  那又如何? 報學校時家長亦應知道情況是這樣, 學校沒有隱瞞, 家長"明知"有此情況又要報paul boys' primary就要有"心理準備".  說到底, 唔係100%"直上"中學亦有其優勝之處.  如果小學部有能力將小朋友教得好, 或者家長自己將小朋友教得好, 到小六也不愁沒有好學校收, 到時St. Paul Co-edu 都可能會收啦.  如果我個仔有呢一日, 我反而好感激學校!

I just tell the truth, I didn't say that the school is so bad.  You think that I "踩"學校 because the truth is ugly.  I didn't  add any salt or vinegar.  I did appreciate the principal for not hiding her real self.

But she didn't tell, did she?  St. Paul's College did tell the press. St. Paul's College Primary School didn't tell the parents.

很多謝你今天所給的資料,我問過校車的人,上車時間是早上6:30-6:40,放學回程是下午5:00後,時間真的很長.現在也不知值不值得要小朋友用這麼長的時間在交通上,當然st. paul比現有的小學好,但是本身的小學也不太差.所以真的很難選擇,今晚真的很難渡過. :-|

他們說上得校車都要4:00了,而且要過tunnel,所以要5:00後先到.仔仔起先都不喜歡,說很遠,但晚飯後卻說都是選st. paul.唉!真的頭都痛.

(你仔仔的樣子很像你呀!我大仔似我老公,細仔愈大也愈像爸爸,無個像我! )

我已經放棄了st. paul 的學位了,好像很可惜,但是學校與家的距離真的十分遠,一個大人由早上7:30起床去上工,回到家中可能也是7:00,我相信大人都會累,何況一個小孩由早上6:00起床上學一直至5:00後先可以回到家,回到家後還要做功課和溫習,我真是不捨得要仔仔這麼辛苦.
不過如果我仔仔本身的學校不是太好,我們可能都會要st. paul 的學位,但是他現在的小學在本區也算不錯.所以起初也有在屋村名校和傳統名校中拉鋸,anyway已經定了,便不再去想了.在此真的十分多謝Teresa的幫忙!

不要客氣吧!

其實我也有同感，如果從九龍到Paul Boys'還可以接受，但是你住新界區，車程實在“太遠”了！而且有時學校放學後還有活動，要參加活動就沒有校車回家。自己要接送就不在話下，小朋友也不好受。

現在反正已經有間不錯的小學收了。起碼也是個保證！雖然我仔無緣和你仔做同學，但都祝福你仔仔讀得開心快樂！

What Teresa said is objective.

Compared with those parents who put heavy foundation on their faces in order to knock some schools' doors, your story is nothing to them.  Not to mention the principal, even a door guard could give you a black face or something you think impolite.  

I know some SP graduates (secondary).  I find they have good personalities as well as academic achievements.  I still think that it is a good school.

I can imagine that you are a really nice lady.  I didn't say that St. Paul's College Primay School is a very bad school,  I just want to express my feeling. Some principals and even some door guards of some elite schools are so rude.  At least, this is not the right attitude for the peoples working in a school.  They are the role models for the students.  

I also want to remind the parents, who is going to make a very important decision, the real situation of the school.  St. Paul's College was a very famous school 10 years ago.  But now the principal need to work very hard to restore its glory and there is no through-train.  Parents must have the up-to-date information to make this very important decision.  Although my intention is not pure, am I a bad guy to tell?
