just want to ask if you think it worths to do the international class at Greenville
which is only 500 dollar more expensive
cos I heard that many good local kinder use English as the medium of instruction
or do you think
don't bother
it's only pre-nursery

I also want to know more about the international class at Greenville.  Besides English, do they teach Chinese and Mandarin as well?  And do they teach writing and have a lot of homework and tests?  I want my son to have a balance between study and play.

Hi everybody!

My daughter will be admitted to K1 in 2007 and I'm planning to apply for the following :
(1) St. Paul's (CWB)
(2) Precious Blood (Happy Valley)
(3) St. Andrew's (Hang Hau)
(4) 宣道 (Hang Hau)
(5) 茵怡 (Po Lam)
(6) Deborah (Fu Hong)
I know it is a bit far away for my daughter to study at the HK side, especially she's so little, but I really want her to study either at St. Paul's or Precious Blood as I used to study there.  
As for St. Andrew's and 茵怡, I think both kindergartens have their own advantages, the campus of St. Andrew's is very good indeed while the teachers of the latter are very nice and sincere.
And I'll pay a visit to Deborah and 宣道 later.

我個女讀緊播道會茵怡幼兒園,我就覺得幾好,d老師好好人,又有愛心,同耐性,又會主動同d媽咪講下個女在學校的情況,d課程又多元化又充實,如n1 己有普通話,英語,好多勞作,我見d小朋友好多都讀得好開心,雖然佢唔係好出名,但真係唔錯.

My son's in their Int'l Class. It's worth paying $500 more per month to listen to more English (3 hours per day!), especially when you consider how much you pay for an English playgroup outside ($200/1-1.5 hrs, I guess).

But you must speak English with your child at home. Don't rely on your Filipino maid or the teachers!
Many classmates of my son don't speak English at home, so I think they can't get the best benefit from their education in school.

Chinese - only some rhymes (e.g. 男警察，女警察，指揮交通捉盜賊, but many don't rhyme at all!)

Putonghua - only the teacher sing/play some songs, one lesson every Monday

Homework - no in the 1st term, one piece of worksheet (drawing lines) every Friday starting from the 2nd term. Some worksheets like this (coloring, shapes, line-drawing) for long holidays. Don't worry, no one bothers if you don't hand it in. After all, it's too demanding to ask a 2-yr-old to draw lines.

==> Don't worry. As long as you're willing to pay a higher school fee, you're always welcome to join the int'l class, no matter which month of the year you join. At the beginning of the term, there's only 4-6 students, then others joined when they reached 2.

like how many local kids in a class ==> almost all of them are local Chinese. There's only one Frech girl. There's used to be an Indian girl studying there for a month or so, but later she left for her home country.

does you son like the class ==> Yes in general.

how's the teacher==> He still misses the first class teacher, who's a Filipino. She always hugged the children and called them honey, sweetheart.

But he likes the present teacher Ms Janam too. She's always wears a smile and her voice is sweet.

I also heard Ms. Joanne will be teaching in the forthcoming term ==> I don't know her. No comment.

The teaching and minor staff of Greenville (Metro City) is good.  Teachers are loving, patient and nice.  My daugther who's now in pre-nursery class loves to attend school very much.  

The downside of the school is the ventilation is not good (in my viewpoint).  There is no outdoor playground for kids.

If you just plan to let your kid study there for one year for pre-nursery class, then I think it's fine.

No info about PBK. But please note that PB Primary is subsidy school. P1 place allocation needs to proceed under EMB.

Dear 茵茵 and ChingChingFather,

Thanks for your advice.  Actually, I'm aware that there are no native English speaking teachers and Putonghua lessons in SPK.  However, I still choose SPK because (1) the possibility of entering St. Paul's Primary School is relatively high (2) I'm a Paulinian and enjoyed my study there very much (3) I just want my kid to have a more "relaxed" and happy study at kindergarten.

As for Precious Blood, I know there's no guarantee of acceptance by the Primary Section but I still want to give it a try because I think their 校風較純樸 and I used to study there.

By the way, does your daughter study at St. Paul's right now?  Or used to study there?  If so, how does/did your daughter go to school? By school bus? Is it expensive?  And does/did your daughter have to get up early in order to catch the bus?
