Which violin are you using now? the China made cheap one or the expensive antique one (sorry can't remember the name) And how much of the strings you mentioned.

I also forget the shop/s you guys mentioned in WanChai. Could any of you tell where the specialist shops other than TomLee or 柏斯 are？

And is it worth to pay a few hundred dollars to the strings on a cheap violin that also costs only a few hundreds?

Obligato is very bad to the sound quality. It makes my violin response so so so slow. I don't know why, but I dislike it.

Could you please comment Evah Pirazzi to Dominants then? I probably have to get a new set soon. Thanks!

In fact, the sound will also change. My first time in using Dominant with my cheap student model, I found the sound much better than those $5 strings. and that's why I won't use back any cheap strings ga la.

I am now using ... one of my violins.  

I and my co-students and friends purchase in bulk from GoStrings.com.  It is cheaper to buy online.

Orfeo - Flat 2D, Southorn Mansion, 1 Luard Road, Wanchai
Violmaster Studio - G/F, 14 Wood Road, Wanchi
Hong Kong Strings - 4th Floor, Parker House, 72 Queen's Road Central

There are a few other individual luthiers - Ngai Tin Wai in Sai Kung and Audrea something in Wanchai for examples.

It depends.  Some cheap violins are not that bad and can be very nice with a better set out and higher quality strings.  I cut my own bridges and sound posts and that brings costs down quite a lot.

係呢.....我又係tune極都tune唔到喎,後來斷鬼埋 tim,再用
另一條又要好小好小心咁(驚佢又斷),整左幾耐 ar~

咁即係點解要拉空弦&點練會好d呢?因為呀囝個miss都有
叫練,但好似冇講點解&練左又有乜用,只我自己就未可

依架換上 Dominant後,感覺好好多,可能真係會好似你所講,
"效果出唔到黎",但總好過發出d我接受唔到嘅聲出黎 ma~

Dominant strings come in 4/4, 1/2 and 1/4.  It should be fine to use 1/4 on 1/8 violins.

Midore is a very good violin player!!! I have also pay $480 for the ticket lu... hee....

But for CD, I would suggest other even  more professional..

另, 紫色尾那隻 dominant 不是咁好。 anyway, 個人主觀意見... 未必用得著。

空弦點練... 係度都好難講。感覺係要用最少的力令個琴最大聲.... 所以都有... 有排努力啦.....

Heifetz, Perlman, Isaac Stern, Hassid... 等等

除左 Perlman, 全部都唔係度0家啦, 係上一代的人。

在 HMV 等不難找到他們的飛沙走石版CD, 因當年錄音不太好。也有DVD賣, $150以上一隻。但我會在國內買，$10就有了。當然，香港有其他地方有，好像尚書房那些國內書店，但數目不多。 DVD 值得強烈推介，我似乎都買了很多。      因看大師拉，好過看老師拉，有些技巧我們自己練很久，對這些人來講，卻不是甚麼。聽聽他們拉曲，怎樣處理，和怎樣演奏，實在很好。

好像Kreisler 曾拉過 salute d'amore, 此曲為舊syllbus中 grade 5 考試歌, 幾十蚊可以聽到這些大師怎樣做, 所以很值得儲 cd 的。唔想買, 在公眾圖書館也可以借到很多。

小提琴絃線也有試聽的嗎？我平時在Tom Lee見到只是一套套，阿仔用P字頭牌子的絃線，我真是完全唔識，阿Sir話好就買。我在家亦有Classical的CD，不過不大懂欣賞，只是流於覺得好聽的層面，真正好在那兒就唔識分辨了。常常有小提琴音樂會，應該怎樣選擇？我唔識揀，通常是看演奏家的名氣或演奏的曲目，你可以教我選擇嗎？

唔該晒！DVD有甚麼精選？你說那些名家我和阿仔上音樂講座聽過，不過轉頭就唔記得。好像上一代好多名家，現代一點的有沒有？或者你覺得是明日之星，讓我留意，如果有音樂會便去聽下。

李傳韻我都喜歡，舊年去聽他演奏四季，真係好精彩。不過，他台上和台下分別太大，上次音樂會後請他簽名，他穿上便服後完全沒有了音樂家的影子，嚇我一跳！

for midori, you can try to search for one of her recordings called "Midori - Encore!". There are many short pieces in it which are quite "friendly" to beginners.
