Not what you thought. As your child will have to assess the school wifi system, the school has to administer all students' computer.

How can the school teach ICT and support students in school work, when students have not only varying computer literacy, but also 5 different computer systems and office suits?  Simple answer is you buy one Mac just for school work and use another Linux box for your other interests. After all, programming is your son's after school interests. Why fight the school over an after school interest?  Worth it?

If simple things like the computer you cannot agree with the school and insist you have your own choice, there will many more things you do not agree with the school

同意。
講真，國際學校的學費萬萬聲，讀得國際學校的家庭應不是綜援戶吧（除非學生是拿特別獎學金）。
一部Mac book 值幾錢？若這様都不能或願付，那年年付school camp 及 overseas field trip 怎樣辦？
還是不要自討苦吃吧！

This is an interesting topic! In computer world, there is always a passion to a die-hard level on the loyalty of computer system, especially for Linux / Mac fans (oh they are really antagonistic). it is so easy to understand a Linux fans refusing Mac because of Linux is open-coded yet Mac is a closed system. So money is not an issue here.

However IS are quite focus on presentation skills and arts. Mac are good companion with Adobe and I have no idea on how Linux system can support graphic programmes (I was outdated to programming for decades).

Well, my last advice is that, it is great to keep your son's hobbies and to develop new hobbies but it is unwise to challenge any school's policy.It is a time-consuming process and you will not win anything at the end.
If you don't believe that, just ignore the school policy (and ignore what other parents and I said). Keep using your Windows/Linux OS at school. I will be waiting for your great story how you change the unreasonable policy at your son's school.

Since the original poster mentioned terminology like "Dual Boot", I guess he/she should have the technical know-how to implement the following solution.

Buy a Mac, then buy and install a software called "VMWare Fusion" on the Mac, this will allow you to create and run "Virtual Machines" and you can install Windows or Linux on them. You'll be able to have Mac OS, Windows, and Linux, all running concurrently and switch between them at ease.

This is better than Bootcamp (dual boot) because that will only let you run one OS at a time, to switch to the other OS you'll have to reboot which is very tedious.

唔明點解覺得用Mac唔合理，一定要揾原因，講來講去樓主唔想用Mac只是個人喜好問題，就想要學校配合，要求太高了吧！其實隨了電腦外，好多嘢都係學校話乜就乜㗎啦，例如校服(我從來唔著藍色)，教科書出版商(自己一向買書買開另一個出版社)，學校上下課時間(個時間配合唔到我個仔的興趣班) …… 乜都可以challenge。用個仔的hobby和家人對電腦的喜好去challenge成間學校的learning platform?我會覺得有冇搞錯，好無聊。

I don't think this is what he meant. For computer program lovers, the question is just simply put as 'Can I use Windows / Linux OS to run all the Mac apps that are used by the school?' I really love this question and can I know the answer?

If I were a diehard fans of Window/Linux (and hate the Mac's monopoly etc). I really just want no Mac. Is there a solution?

Have you read all the replies?
Some parents did provide more technical information and positive suggestions.
In any case, I do not see the point dragging on here.
Each school has their own policy.
The best thing is talk to the school.

Can you go to work in a company and argue about the computer system standard the Corporate use?

It is education and schooling vs a trivial computer choice as a pass time?

That is no big deal and can easily be solved by getting a more powerful machine, but as someone pointed out, if the real issue is a psychological one, i.e. "心魔", then it cannot be solved by any hardware or software :)
