Hi 紅紅, apologies if there's any misunderstanding from my post. I didn't have the intension to stir up anything but just saying what I have observed. Most of all, I DIDN'T say that ALL discussions here are gossip or hearsay, I only said discussions about certain schools (and again not all discussions about those schools, but quite a lot of them). I also said that EK is however a place where you found some very good information about ESF schools (particularly those in Kowloon or NT side), and other schools I mentioned in my precious post. I just wish to clarify this. Or it doesn't make sense if I am one saying this place is full of hearsay and gossip while I continue to hang out here.
Like I mentioned, a friend of mine settled in Shatin when they moved back to HK found EK to be very resourceful when they were looking for an IS near them. Some people here may again be offended and thought I am trying to imply that participants here don't go for the TOP TIER schools, well.. I guess it's fair if I said yes most of hem don't but may be a small number do. That's just my observation, and I can't be bothered to proof myself wrong or what. It doesn't really matter if this is a place for top tier or more "down to earth" schools. I think this is a place with information relevant to my needs so I stay here and enjoy the readings here.

I do read your posts as well 紅紅,and I appreciate you are one always share some very good information here. Once again, apologies for the misunderstanding, if there's any.
Happy discussion...

Thanks very much Beekay.  Very good info there.  I agree that EK here is useful but sometimes ppl do ...
I think depending on what you want. If you don't have time and want a more comprehensive overview, and doesn't mind the cost.... Then why not try a consultant/agency?
But be mindful that not all agencies/consultants is really good and able to give you a true answer. I don't know about Topschools though, it has the reputation but I don't know how good they are actually.

Hi Lovecasey, do you know of any other consultants providing similar services as Topschools? I know there are some immigration agents or real estate agents such as Savills and Collier International do together with their house search service, but I encountered once with Savills and I found it to be a joke... Well, big joke

I would be extremely cautious about any advices provided by TopSchools or Ruth Benny. I find her very biased, only comments highly on schools that her clients can get in or pay for her advertisements, and talk down on the schools that her clients cannot get in, so be careful.....

Search Ian tsang. On fb, never used and no comments on him. However, he seems to be more focused on local school. My advise is to take school tour on the targeted schools.

Hi Sara_liu, do you know which schools she tend to recommend?
I just dropped by the topschools site, and saw 2 ads banners, Eton School and ICA. These are new schools, would she tend to recommend them?

What about the featured schools on the website? I don't know what does it mean by "featured schools"... any ideas?

Top schools / Ruth Benny service is not catered to us here.  Instead, she provides service to expats who are new to Hk or people who needs to be handheld.  Her advice  is useful on schools that are not even mentioned here, ie not the ones we are interested in or want to get in.  People browsing through EK are really focus on the top tier and the very minute  details.

Those two schools Eton and ICA in the banner with school logos and images are obviously paid advertisement to her agency. Topschools /Ruth Benny favors new schools because they have new classes (openings) and more chances to take her clients. She guarantees 100% success rate of placing all her clients in a school and not all of them are bright or academically strong so those schools have special programs like ESL, special needs or not selective in the admissions process would naturally be the most favored by her.

Seems to be, not sure if he has good referral or recommendation on IS. Regards to Topschools, agree that it is more useful to those who doesn't know much on IS, I think as local parents, we would visit the schools personally and search on the web if time allowed.

I believe Ruth gets both expat & local clients and that's why few months ago she tried to hire someone with a bit of local background who can help her clients to navigate both local & international schools. Her own kid is in ISF so personally she is pro Chinese learning. Given parent who are willing to pay her probably has tricky cases on their hand, so i wouldn't blame her for teaming up with new schools. True though, that probably we can learn more by doing the research ourselves.

Again, the same. It works with large corporates more as those companies are more likely or willing to pay for debentures for their top executive's children. It also favors/recommends schools that have special needs and pay for their exposure such as advertisements...
