My boy's reading thick books now, can't finish in a day

He brings a Chinese story book or a fact book to school and reads his kindle Eng stories at home so he's doing all three at the same time. He has to write me something or do a small presentation after each book, only after that will I buy him another kindle book. That's how I keep him motivated.

有年書展，我聽到有個熱心老闆同媽媽們討論點揀書，香港作者嘅書俾佢彈到一文不值！我唔敢下判斷，𣎴過有得揀嘅話，我都揀台灣書。

我只選台灣出版的書，或者內地近代的兒童文學（繁體版），我看過一些成語書，也是台灣的比較好。香港出版的兒童圖書的文字，總好像欠缺了些什麼！

何紫, 阿濃寫果d兒童故事文筆都應該唔錯.
不過何紫寫的多是70-80年代的故事, 感覺有點懷舊.但從中也可看到70-80年代家境比較清貧的兒童生活.

橋樑書同"青田我會讀"中間。。。都差距很遠，這類書很難找

Interesting, I always debated whether to do this since I am afraid they may lose interest and treat reading books as a homework or exercise. I do narration as well but separately as I do afterschooling with them.

The more I explore about Chinese books, the more I feel recent HK books are really meant to be functional, i.e. recognize words, learn grammar, ... But they are not like Taiwan books with a good story that one can chew on or written in florid language like good literature. It is actually kind of a sad state. Can you recommend a couple of the mainland Chinese books? I would like to check them out also.

我仔好鍾意睇信誼o個本"大聲公"，有兩集的。因為我地多數都係去圖書館尋寶，有時我都係求其借比佢，佢鍾意睇o個d自己會話比我知呢本好好睇，叫我睇下仲有冇同系列的。
最近睇格列佛遊記，因為之前睇左明珠台套戲。有時都要碰下運氣，如果借左返黎佢唔鍾意都唔緊要，咪借過第d囉，橫掂呢本唔睇可以睇第2本。
佢有時睇細佬o個d我自己會讀都好開心架

係0架, 好正經, 傾向教育意味. 無奇幻冒險既劇情....
香港兒童作品都係呢類.

外國兒童作品就有趣味同刺激好多.

英文書比較容易選，有ORT，magic tree house, 老鼠記者，從幼兒到青年都有很多選擇，大人都覺得有趣味。青田好悶，台灣書又經常帶音標，搞到版面好難看。 series books的好處是會吸引孩子追看，中文的好像不多。

Yes, they all have their own individual tastes. I actually read the one by Ar Long. The words are simple but it has wonderful meanings behind it. I think may need a discussion to start drawing out the different layers to make it interesting.

我都覺得中間無咩書可以睇...所以對於我女狂睇英文書唔多睇中文書我都束手無策.
老老實實, d英文故事書真係非常吸引...

我地係橋樑書前睇青田有套：讀故事學語法，跟住阿女睇中套：無奇不有魔法學校，呢套其實已經同橋樑書差不多

Actually I don't want to add these extra exercises but I'm frustrated that his writing and comprehension is not improving and he finishes his fact books so quickly that I have to wonder if he has really read them.
We have only been doing this for a few months, his writing and comprehension has definitely improved so I guess we will keep doing this till summer and then review.

What about picture books? The range of difficulty is quite broad and can fill the gap between easy picture books and chapter books as well?
