Ok, so no groups of ESF parents and students can be criticized, right?  I was commenting on the behavior in this thread, ESF or not is not the point ...
What kind of behaviour is that? You believe Hongkongers of Chinese origin must all be Cantonese and if they are Cat 1 in ESF then they must be avoiding their mother tongue, I'm saying you're just plain wrong.

What is the percentage of Hong Kong permanent residents of Chinese origin who do not know cantonese?  They obviously do not qualify for what I said 無所不同其極。

Cantonese being the majority in Hongkong does NOT mean those Cat 1 Hongkongers in ESF must be avoiding their mother tongue, you being a member of the majority does NOT give you any right to categorically label others as 無所不同其極 and sling mud at them, that is your ill sense of self righteousness.

Honestly, I have no interest in dealing with the likes of you who indulge in cyberspace for YEARS building up your little comfort zone, that is why I seldom/never comment on your frequent categoric and sweeping statements made here and there, but your mud slinging and pot shots at a certain group of ESF parents and children are something else and need to be rebuked. Call it picking a fight if you will, if you sling mud at others, be prepared that they will come down on you like a ton of bricks.

I never said categorically Hong Kong cat 1 students in ESF are avoiding mother tongue.  What gives you the right to invent something and then label me.

You have the right to say Chinese people (mother tongue Cantonese) avoiding mother tongue to get in cat 1 is NOT 無所不用其極。

I have the same right to say Chinese people (mother tongue Cantonese) avoiding mother tongue to get in cat 1 is very much 無所不用其極。

Is that slinging mud? is that ill sense of righteousness? You and I are never going to agree. Let the others to decide.

That is the end of it.  Pick something else to argue please.

Ok then, lets deal with this group, so there are Cantonese Hongkongers who opt to drop Cantonese, and learn Mandarin at ESF. Let me ask you this, how are they different from the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS in China who decided to drop their mother tongue dialect in favour of Mandarin? Many youngsters in China can no longer converse in their dialect, or feel quite awkward at it and are more comfortable in their new mother tongue Mandarin. Are they 無所不用其極? Are they trying hard not to be Chinese?

Sorry that I broke open your little provincial Cantonese walnut which you were so comfortably encased in and showed you the bigger picture, it might have hurt your bloated ego but I hope it will do you good in the end.

You mean people in Guangdong are dropping cantonese in China?  And they are no longer conversant with cantonese?  Hokkien people are dropping Hokkien, Shanghai people dropping their Shanghai dialect, Sichuan people are dropping their Sichuan dialect?

Any statistics or news article to support that?

Even if Cantonese is not spoken in Guangdong anymore (we know it is not true, but let's play along this idea), did they drop Cantonese to become cat 1???

Millions of Chinese dropping their Dialect to get into cat 1???

I have said Cantonese speaking people in HK avoid mother tongue to get in cat 1 無所不用其極。I did not say categorically people dropping their Chinese dialect 無所不用其極.

You again invented something I didn't say and thought you won any argument and you have the right to call me provincial mindset. Funny thing is, then you apologized for something you did not do and indulged in your little celebratory remarks.  Don't worry, my ego can't possibly be hurt by you, I am quite sure of it.  You really are a master of the straw-man approach.

Emm... Boring.  I wonder when you will start picking my typo and declare your victory.

I don't think I ever picked on your typo, it was pretty clear what you were getting at. This is not the first time you pointed fingers at this group of people either, and seeing that they bug you so much I doubt if it would be the last. If I were you, I would spend more time sharing with your cozy little circle of cyber-friends here what you think you did right, rather than habitually taking pot shots at a group of people for what you think they did wrong.

Seeing that someone got banned (funny that he/she thought the moderator would be on his/her side) which is not what I want to see, I'll stop here and let you off the hook this time. There is no "victory" nor "defeat" in any of this, even for that pathetic wimp who got banned, he/she could always come back as a new user, which I believe you also did at some stage.

It has been fun.  Thank you very much for letting me off the hook. I would even grant you victory.
