You said: "所以個個選去外國, 這是無奈"... Why?  You mean most parents pre ...

The average score this year is higher than before, so competition into U will be higher too...

My kid's friends mostly will go to UK, USA or Canada as well...

I feel that HK's situation is worsen than before, so go overseas for good maybe a better alternative for our kids...

Not only that, some parents are prepared to pack up and relocate the entire family when their kids are ready for overseas education. They emigrated during the 90's and then relocated back to Hongkong after obtaining foreign citizenship, and are prepared to "re-relocate" if they foresee Hongkong continuing on it's downhill slide.

I have similar feeling too.

SIS KGB and STC did very well this year and track records are impressive.

Annie123,

one Island School Head boy   with     perfect IB score : 45
one LPC boy who set up a charity organisation  with IB score : 40
one DBS boy with tennis scholarship  (I guess Anchan should know who is he)
another one I don't know.

The personal statement (for UK colleges) is your opportunity to tell universities and colleges about your suitability for the course(s) that you hope to study. You need to demonstrate your enthusiasm and commitment, and above all, ensure that you stand out from the crowd.
The personal statement can be different to application essays or personal statements from other countries (e.g. USA),

agree with you, I also encourage my kids to go overseas to see the world, in other countries, people always move to different jobs in different places, trying different ways of life... I have lived in Europe and Canada for some time before as well, the experience was valuable for life.  HK is a good place, but stucking here for too long will limit one's horizon.

Annie123,

The competition for a non-JUPAS place in local Us shouldn't be that bad this year as we have the double cohorts of HKALE and HKDSE which also doubles the non-JUPAS places (at least theoretically).  The situation from next year onwards will be quite bad given that there are more IB schools sending their first DP cohorts to the May exam ...

Nevertheless, sending the kids overseas may not be as desirable as before 1997, especially for professional degrees, since there are now hurdles for overseas graduates to get recognised to practise in Hong Kong.

When everything comes to normal next year, the total spots would come to about 18,000. 20% of the spots will go to the Non-Jupas applicants. Amongst them, about half of them will go to Mainland and international applicants.

If you take DSE, about 24,000 qualified applicants (out of 80,000) compete for 14,400 spots. The spots for the Non-Jupas applicants (local students who study in Hong Kong or overseas) is about 1,800. I do not know the number of Non-jupas applicants each year. If the number exceeds 3,600, it would appear that it is more difficult for Non-jupas applicants to be admitted to local colleges.
