求學是否求分數?   要看你求什么学。     求学问当然不是求分数。 求升好学校自然要求分数。 我倾向前者，读书首要是求学问与提升能力。能力提升分数自然来。 求分数是正常不过的，但太多学生将精力放在求分数上而忽略提升能力和求知识，能力不足，最后越想求分越吃力。

I was referring to Oxford and Cambridge when I posted the message.
In the UK, interview is held before the release of AL exam.

Gettiing highest score can be achieved through every day life education, not necessarily through examinations.

You still can achieve highest score if you do not target this goal, treat it as aone of the challenges in life, no need to emphasis too much on that, just one part of the life....

I implore you to study the result statistics of GCSE. (ie the grade distribution)

Go to study the  statistics of GCSE results for those who got conditiomal offer from Oxbridge  and also go to study the  statistics of both GCSE and GCE A Level results or  equivalent for those who finally got offer from Oxbridge then you will learn more about the reality.
Having a flying color in exam results is almost a Must (but of course not suffizient) for those top universities.

似乎你唔係太知UK公開試的水準如何。
Reality有時係好殘酷
Oxbridge 我報過，interview過，我唔知好彩定唔好彩收左我。我明白成績係相對，不過無論我中學任何校內校外考試成績都唔可以叫flying colours。唔知閣下有乜postulations呢？

我每睇多次＂求學不是求分數＂的討論。我就明多點香港學生何解讀書讀得咁唔開心。

有三樣有關讀書考試的事實係一般人比較難明

1。成績好個個，唔一定入到某個學系；成績差個位，又唔一定入唔到同一學糸
2。你立心求分數，分數唔一定變好；變差唔罕見
3。學問同分數，係唔同的事
一個正常智商的人，有interest有enthusiasm，讀書點會差。做父母要注意只是唔好破壞小朋友對學習的興趣同熱情。

In EK, we can see wide spectrum of parents and kids, and our education / government officials' mandate and execution may not release us from fierce competition from day one, like hospital beds......


It's difficult for us to draw the line, we need to gather info, align with our goals and value system, then we decide how to nurture our kids. If we know our constraints, we still can stretch the limits, but not overdo, overdo will be extremely painful for the family.

Eg some parents aim for happy and easy learning, due to their previous bad experience, or a balance family life. They know the pros and cons, their decisions are sensible,

If the boy may not up to the standard of certain elite schools, but parents insist to push him into those schools...... So stress, pain....... are coming.

We need to adjust our expectation to strike a balance.....
