Anybody received the interview letter of Shatin Junior?

Hi, Ruby, we meet again, is your on in K2 as well, I also applied for Shatin Junior and Phoenix so far only got letter from Phoenix inviting interview in March.  

I have a feeling it is quite easy to get into Phoenix, I am not sure if I would let me daughter studying there since I don't know much about the quality of this school.  Anyone knows????

Yes, I also applied for Phoenix and SJS. But same as you, just got interview from Phoenix. Besides, I'd applied for K.3 (pre-Grade 1) of ICS (International Christian School) and will do the interview on Jan 6.

Some mommies told me that Phoenix is good, some told me that ICS is good. I think I would decide after visiting both. Phoenix did come to my son's kindy and gave an orientation about their new campus and new syllabus, both my husband and me are quite happy with it, especially on their facilities of the new campus and their emphasis on Chinese. Have you got any orientation from Phoenix ? Or have you visit them ?

Any other school you have applied ? Did you call SJS ? Which school is your kid now studying at ?

I'd posted a question about Phoenix and also ICS, you can have a look (but so far no one answered).

Hi Ruby,

My daugther is currently at St Catherine, Phoenix did not give briefing there, it is my decision to apply for international school as I feel a bit secure if she could get in pre-primary.  My husband did not quite agree with me and he does not want to give up the chance of getting into local schools.   So I am still undecided, if my daughter is luckily enough to get accepted by SJ, I will most probably let her study there.  But some of my friend told me that the standard of kids at SJ is not so standardized and they adjust syllabus in accordance to the level of the child rather than a standard set of teaching syllabus.  I really don't know how to choose and will see how things go.

I got the letter from SJS today but they put my kid into the waiting list.  No interview is granted at the moment.  I do not know why as I submitted the form very early that day.  Maybe we did not fall into their catagory of priority.  nybody can share about yours?

Phoenix is around $4,800 (similar to other ESF) while ICS pre-Grade 1 (and I think also elementary) is around $6,000.

And, ICS requires an assessment fee of $1,000 for interview, it's not refundable whether you pass or fail the interview. Then, they need you to pay $5,000 to reserve the place. However, as my interview in ICS is Jan while the one for Phoenix is in Mar, I think I have to pay the $6,000 anyway...woowoo...

I also haven't got any interview from SJS. I was the first to hand in my application but still haven't got it. I know they gave all the priorities to the siblings, native speaking, foreign passports and ESF Kindy. I heard that even some ESF Kindy kids still haven't got the interview. But, I'll still wait.

Were you the one having your maid queuing up the day before the registration day???

I also received a refusal letter today from SJS, looks like they have priority for certain kids, so the chance is very slim.  In the letter, they have referred me to apply for Phoenix , is this the same to everyone????

if they are so limited on spaces,
then they do not need us to queue for a long time to submit the application form then

What are the other options in N.T. and Kowloon area ? I can afford school fee similar to or slightly higher than ESF only

Yes, I asked my maid to queue up in the midnight. But we were applying for BHS at that time as we were living in Kowloon Tong. But, now since we have moved to Ma On Shan, BHS has transferred our application to SJS. We still have chance if someone fail in the interview or someone give up the place after admitted. I will still 'wait' for it. i.e. i'll pay the 'deposit' for reserving places in Phoenix and ICS, while waiting for an interview from SJS. Then, if SJS also admit my son, we will decide then.

It's surprising that even the first one couldn't get an interview.  Seems very unfair to the ones who are sincere to send their kids study there.  And they may lose the chance to choose smarter kids.   Anyway, waiting is the only option.

Dear all,

I am going to apply SJS for my son next year but I am so surprise that so many children haven't given an interview.  May I know which kindergarten your children are attending?  Some people said only children studying in "International" kindergartens would be offered an interview.

For those who have an interview, may I know which kindergarten your children are attending?

Although early submission of application form does not secure an interview, I still plan to summit an application earlier next year.  Therefore, I would like to know which date did SJS start accepting application forms this year.

My son is studying in an int'l school and I was the 1st one handed in application on the 'public application' day, but i still haven't got an interview.

yes ESF prioritizes on foreigners first, all the children who cannot learn with chinese, will be given an interview first, then will be the ones ( including chinese) who return from Foreign land, because they assume that they cannot adapt tot he local school system.

then spaces left are for you.
spaces had been much more tense these few years, but back in 1990s, everyone was fleeing from 1989 tiananmen so there were plenty of spaces back then.
