應該比小朋友係小一前學英文拼音嗎？

我個仔同兩個K1 o既同學一齊搵私人老師學Letterland phonics，老師同時係兒童心理學家，係香港人但o係英國住左好多年，講廣東話有d似去左外國好耐o既中國人。犬兒非常鍾意，每個禮拜都好期待去上堂，老師話佢進度好好，而家已經學緊進階課程，相信今年暑假就會學完。

嗯....我見好多家長嘅意見都係小朋友學咗嘅比例好,我都會比個女去學下,我想問下,一個星期學一堂係咪已經足夠呢?同埋有邊間好啲?我見有啲百幾蚊一堂,有啲要四百幾蚊一堂,個價錢相差好!

貴既唔代表係好野, 平既亦唔代表唔好. 好睇個班多唔多小朋友一班（同埋一起上堂果班小朋友投唔投入，　如果大家都好投入，會學得快好多, 如果當中有一個半個滋事份子, 成日上堂搞搞陣, 咁就真係........) 同埋睇個小朋友受唔受個套教法! 所以最好有得試堂囉！
一星期一堂係ok架！

Neither did we send our kid to formal phonics classes but just let him watch the VCDs (some 15 or 20 mins a day) when he was not yet 2 years old.  Then during his time in PN and K1, he was taught Letterland phonics at school (though we moved him to another kinder starting K2).  Now basically he would try to read out even unfamiliar words.

A few days ago on his way to a 2nd interview, he typed an SMS using his mother's phone and sent it to me (though actually we were travelling together).  Let me share it here:

"daddy ,please can i go to the choi kai yau school interview pl...pl...please?pls take me to there okay?pls....?? Love (name of our son)"

I was quite surprised as he could spell "interview", but my wife reminded me that he might have seen the signage at previous school interviews.  What I wish to say is to that phonics helps young kids to read, as well as to spell words provided they have satisfactory level of reading.

Your son is very smart.
My son learn phoincs since this Oct, the class should be 3-4 children but now remain him alone. I think this is good for him, more focus during the class.

我小朋友間小學都有教phonics，不過老師真係expect小朋友已經識，一個星期都係教個20分鐘，如果唔係幼稚園已經學過phonics，單教小學教，我覺得好難會識囉！

另外，聽聞有間地區熱門私校今年小一interview係有考小朋友phonics，如果唔識會影響取錄機會。

Yes, as early as possible.  Bear in mind, they are only learning phonics, not phonetics, IPA.

Both parents and children should learn.  Some children fail to do well in this area not least because of the bad pronunciation their parents "feed" them day by day, which no weekly or daily classes by even native speakers can help.

我自己唔覺得phonics一定要學，好depends on小朋友本身串字同認讀方面有冇困難，而且phonics太多exceptional，佢話20%，我無做過研究，但應該唔只 。
我本身兩個小朋友都學過，大仔串字同認讀本身唔難吸收，phonics對佢幫助其實唔明顯，d exceptional仲攪到佢confuse tim。細仔認字同串字有d困難，phonics對佢就真係好大幫助，記多左好多字。

Agree with you. If the kid has no problem in spelling and recognizing words, then phonics might not help. The native english teacher tells me that though she teaches phonics at HK, she didn't learn it in UK at her young age. The phonic only helps kid to read the word but many exceptional cases.

To me, on the other hand, the IPA is good for Hong Kong Student coz IPA can help the kid to pronounce the word correctly and in accurate accent.

My experience with my kids - definitely good, for both English and Mandarin .....K2 and K3 is the best time!!

我個仔k2, k1學校已教, 不過佢係外面英文班教得深d, 而家學校個d反而淺, 佢都ok, 我又唔覺佢係學冇興趣, 反而我地不用同佢溫學校的 phonic. 早d冇壞的.
