I have 2 kids, one is 4 and another is just 1.
We start to borrow books from library since my daughter was 3. 1/3 Chinese, 2/3 English. I read books for them before sleep. My helper reads English books during the day time.
For the Chinese books, i read it in Cantonese and PTH. my daughter did not like the PTH version, but i told her that Chinese writing is base on PTH not Cantonese. after reading more books, she understands the different between PTH and Cantonese.
For the English book, I did not force her to read. She loves ORT, usually, i let her pick up books, then i read it for them. if she shows the interest of the book, for example, she likes ORT's "Sleeping beauty", so we did the role play, she is princess and my son/i are prince/solider - we need to do it in English. all of us had fun. |
