I am glad almost all the parents are quite happy, all kids seem to enjoy school at KV.  I will be sending my son to KV in 2010!
1.  One other concern of mine is the transparency of the school seems less than other schools.  No website, and not much activities other than academic, how does current KV parents feel about this? Don't you want to do something with the kids at school.
2.  Also, do you find the kids lack creativity, lateral thinking compared to those from "activity based learning" children?  as KV is SUCH a known "traditional" kindergarten?

I'm sending my boy in 2010 and my girl is in k3.

1.  Its a kindergarten hence a very simple organisation.  Kids get to learn the basics.   Curriculum is not given out before but end of each week so that parents don't jump ahead otherwise kids may loose interest in school.   You can chat or call your teacher at anytime for your own kids progress with his learning, getting on with others, etc..

2.  Not sure about lateral or creative thinking at this age or what is done in other schools.  School encourages kids to make their own sentences, do sum mentally and simple logic formations from K2.  Mental agility describes it better for me.   This further progressed in k3.

Kids get handy work, parent kid assignments,  drawings, painting, make up their own presentations, plants to grow at home, reading books, etc.

GE is also very good but seldom mentioned.

For me this situation is preferable as school spends majority of the time on academics - hence the message is simple school is place for learning.  I can do different ECA  at home, outings can be arranged with other kids, etc.   Hence, I don't prefer the schools that claim to be activity based learning because teaching academics at home without a good learning attitude would be more difficult.

Do the kids need to do presentation in front of the class? e.g. my son is currently studying PN at an international school and he often needs to do presentations in front of his classmates (although very simple task like introducing a family photo, 'his favorites ....')

For me, i think this is one of the most important reasons for whether or not sending my son to KV (vs. St Cat)coz I'd like him to build up confidence and able to speak in front on other people at ease.

Yes.  Show and tell as its called in KV, both in k2 and k3.  Also, special presentation for events such as olympics.

My own experience of public speaking is very much depend on the individual, hence if your kid confident then he will be confident and training only makes him better.   I've seen very intelligent and senior people quiver when the speak in public.

thanks smartmatt (and the other mommies input).  in a way, I am starting to believe that kids at this age need more basics knowledge, then perhaps in primary school, secondary school, they start doing analytical thinking. like babies, we first teach them apple, banana, cars...then you teach them why you eat them vs potato chips...etc.  Hopefully, if they start right, learning the discipline from day one, then they have the foundation to do more in the future.  From your description, KV is not entirely spoonfed, which was the impression I got previously.  Thank for the sharing!(

Your thinking is correct, but in KV it all happens within 3 yrs.   Judging from P1 interviews and friends kids in P school KV's pace is spot on - that is if you want your kid to go to a top P school.  Most, if not all, top P school will miss or quickly cover p1 material.

Spoon feeding is far from KV methods.   KV kids mature very fast.  My foreign friends compares my girl to 8 yr old's.   Near end of K2 kids are thinking about putting together their own sentences in Chinese and English, performing mental sums, etc..
