Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Dear 123,

Please relax!  If you see the prospectus in detail, you will find that the school plans to achieve full school i.e. 30 classes in a few years' time.  Since DBSPD just opens this year (under the DSS scheme), they therefore recuit fewer classes from P.2-6.  They will add one class each from next year onwards, that means, those who failed in applying this year (let's say P.3 - only 4 class this year) can also apply for next year in P.4 (when they open one additional class).

The school is not cutting the seats in any way! Don't worry!  Hope this could clarify your concern.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Dear all

Next Monday is the 1st parent day with the class teacher after 4 weeks. Do you have any comments so far or any specific topics you will bring up in the meeting?

My boy (P2) said the learning environment is too noisy in all classes and I believe it is out of control occassionally.
In fact, we observed our boy's learning attitude and concentration is deteriorated compare with his last school attended.

I know there is a transitition period for the school , my boy and ourselves. But we are not sure we should take on this further or not.

Anyway, please share with us your observation up to now..

Cheers, J&E&W

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Dear J&E&W,

I agree with your view that we need some more time to get used to the enviornment, but so far, I haven't heard anything negative from my son (he is in P.3).  He does mention that some of his classmates were warned by classteacher because they draw pictures during lessons.

I look forward to meeting the classteacher next Monday and hope to learn more about their teaching method, any adjustment, etc.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Dear JEW,

Also share the view with Justin2002 that the school and us need more time to adapt.  I in fact have a bit worry about the teaching at school because we have little information and experience about the running of classes.  There are still few homeworks and the progress is still slow, compared with the previous school my son attended.
It would really be a good chance for us to know the teachers and other parents on Monday so that we can express our worry/comment and share with each others. See you on monday.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Dear All,

I will raise that there are no seat-belts on the school bus and I think it is very dangerous.  In fact, the bus mum told me that there were some children playing or even standing in the bus.  How can the school bus have no seat-belt?!  Even for adult, nowadays, also needs to wear seat-belt on private car, taxi and minibus.

I also want to raise that some of the teachers use "many" Cantonese at classes.  I understand that there will have a transition period for all the children to get adapt into the environment.  However, I think, for an English school, it should use English as the medium of teaching. For us, as parent, we should know and understand the school policy and should not request the teachers speaking in Cantonese.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Dear BrainMaMa,

You said that some teachers use "many" Cantonese in classes, may I know which level are you referring to?  If it is in P.1, I think it is quite understandable.  However, I do agree that teachers should follow the policy on medium of teaching, but I also expect them to carry out flexibly as everything has pro and con...it's difficult to be too straight sometimes.

Re seatbelt on school bus, I totally agree with your suggestion.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

My son tells me that the teachers do say in chinese sometimes, but not too much, only in cases where the terms are difficult (difficult to understand i suppose) during the GS lessons.  Maths lessons are all in english.

btw, what elective courses your sons have taken, my son is admitted to one which is neither his first nor second choises

I also agree that seat belts should be provided on school buses.  furthermore, the school bus is always late after school.  we have to wait at least 15 minutes every normal day.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Hi nickmum,

What elective course did you son admitted?  I don't know the course has been confirmed because my son's class was just told a bible story with a 連線picture exercise and then did their homework during elective class. My son is in P1, he tells me that his teachers speak English even in recess time and speak Chinese just when they are noisy.

Re: DBSPD ChatRoom

Hi e-mame

my son has been admitted to the "Enghish with Fun" (or something like that).  I know that because I saw a worksheet with some fun english exercises and my son told me that the worksheet was done during the elective class.  The class was not taught by his english teacher, but a Miss xx (i forget).  The school did not inform me formally.

i think class with boys only (男校) would be noisy and difficult to control.  the teachers may need to be 惡D lah
