I don't know how to type Chinese. When you will go to Shanghai? Perhaps you PM me & call me when you're in town.
Shanghai Book City is very big, they have one corner for children book - only Chinese. I don't find they have English readers for small kids. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I go there every Saturday) Anyway, if you have older children, you can get some story books (no picture), each cost Rmb 6-7/each.
Books in Xinhua Book Stores are varies, depending on the location. I go to one located in "Shemen Road No. 1" (Take metro-out from Shemen Station, exit - Nanjing West Road/Shemen Road). They have a complete set of children readers (suitable for age 3 or above) The stories is similar to Oxford Reading Tree, published by Harcourt. They have 4 grades, the first grade with 6 books, cost Rmb 12. The 2nd grade is Rmb 15, 3rd and 4th grade is Rmb20. Soft cover, full color. I will try to take some pictures and post it here.
Anyway, don't expect the people there will tell you where the books are located, they know nothing and you have to search on your own.
I bought a few more VCD (Rmb 10 each) for my son to learn Mandarin. One of them are quite good. It's an educational program, showed on TV. e.g. the first lesson, the teacher teach the children how to read & say "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10", the 2nd lesson is, "your body, nose,eye, head etc...." I think it's perfect for children who don't speak Mandarin. |
