我公司d 女強人有dg, gh 同mcs d 搞舊生佢地好有分別:

dg: 好搶彊型. 好勇, 好like 做領導者, 好多理論,好sales型
mcs: 好斯文, 內斂同好原則.. 好律師型
gh: 好有禮貌, 好謙虛, 好勤力, 好分析員類型.

這是不難理解的, 據我所知, DGS 收的學生大多來自富有人家及家境教育環境好的, 如莫文 x  所以她們的學生多屬於千金小姐型, 此外, DGS教導學生"叻"就是好, 所以出來的學生就如上述所說.

How is St. Paul Co-edu as compared with DBS / DGS ?

Boy and girl school, hk side, emphasise musical and academic aspect,a lot of famous graduates?

DBS/DGS
Single sex school, kowloon side, more sporty and open?
How you compare their students or choose between them?

Will you withdraw the chance during P.6 to get into other free but also top secondary school like DGS, Queens, Wah Yan etc by choosing St.Paul Co.edu when your kid is also smart and competitive?

係呀, DGS is good, 但我識得有人係入面教書, 佢o地話, 反而有些家長好難服待, 成日好多要求, 有時學生要上課外活動堂, 有些家長又要旁聽, 又要學校去酒店訂餐畀學生上課外活動時吃(當然係家長自己主動出錢),  有時又話學校d設施仲未夠一流水平(其實已好新model), 話去買就買(係d家長自己主動出錢去買番黎, 真係誇張...)........, 總之好"奄"尖. 可能, 佢地好多家庭背景都好有$, 所以係入面教書, 都好難服待某些家長....

OH...如果有機會入Queens, Wah Yan is also very very good, 咁我唔會入St.Paul co.ed, 會選Queens, Wah Yan, 因為唔駛畀咁多錢........, also, 我有2個朋友以前都係分別讀Queens, Wah Yan, 佢地話都係讀得好開心.

If you abandon the seat in St.Paul Coedu, you don't know if you can be successfully entered the top government subsidized school because the result could only be came out around July .So will you take the risk by staying in St.Paul?      :

everybody has their own ranking, based on their own experience maybe with working with some old girls, or from relatives, or from friends, and also most importantly, from media.
i can only say that the majority ranks the top 2 as:
1.DGS
2.Maryknoll
3. onwards there's a lot of variations.

I agree with MSMA but are you talking primary school or secondary school??

My friend's daughter study kindergarten in KLN Tong
Kingston HK$10000 per month. When she interview in DGS is that 2 girls a group and see with the teacher. My friend wait outside. After interview, my friends ask her daughter, she said "" I don't want to mention again????"" of course she failed and then she study Primary One in Kingston HK$9500 per month !!!!

Quite honestly I can understand DGS coming first but I cannot understand why people think so highly of MCS.  I think it is over-rated and people are too impressed by its past reputation and "packaging".  No doubt their students are quite "presentable" and they all speak fluent English, but in terms of academic ability they are not superior to schools like St Mary's or Good Hope or Sacred Heart.   Look at students who gained admission to Oxbridge or Ivy League schools in recent years and not too many of them are from MCS.  

Sorry to appear to stereotype (and no doubt MCS parents will attack me) but whenever you rank schools, stereotyping is unavoidable.

And I have a bias against Kowloon Tong schools, perhaps because a lot of people use false addresses   in Kowloon Tong to gain admission to schools in that area.  

Do criticise me, but that is my view.

Well, there is one good reason why you don't see 10A's from MCS girls : the school do not recommend students to take 10 subjects in HKCEE.   
Yes, I am an old girl from MCS.  For the year I graduated, 2 of my classmates got 9A's and 8A's.  
32 out of 40 girls of my class got A in English.   And my classmates went to Oxford, MIT, Cornell, UCBerkely etc...   And the school do not publicise too much on these.    I also have friends and cousin from St. Mary and Good Hope.  They are all very good academically.    Among these reputable school, I don't see why one should be above or below the others.

The reason why DGS always stays at the top: they have private primary school, they can choose very good students from weathly family and professional parents, that's how they get smart children and wealthy parents who can send their children to expensive schools overseas.    For MCS and other good schools, primary students are selected by lucky draw, no guarantee on quality and background.  Thus, good students are results of hard work of devoted teachers and parents.

But, I will not send my girl to MCS. As we do not believe in the edu. system created by our 'beloved' government, we will send my girl to some school with less pressure, that uses the activity based teaching.

I never said MCS is not good.  I just thought that it was perhaps over-rated.  Anyway hear hear.  Here's a sensible Maryknoller speaking.

superdada: if you care to compare the HKCEE and HKAL results of Good Hope and MCS made public in their respective websites, MCS is simply miles and miles ahead of Good Hope... ...

superdada, i think you see things too superficially and easily influenced too much by media.

A lot of my friends are from DGS and Maryknoll, even St Marians and GoodHopers. And I know them since primary schools.

I can tell you that different schools presented themselves differently.

Take DGS for example, i totally agree with ettawong that because DGS primary school can choose their own students, they tend to choose those with professional parents. And of course, one should agree that quality parents tend to produce 'smarter' offsprings. The school believe that such students will be more talented and it's true! All my DGS friends i know of came from rich families and they have one thing in common apart from being 'rich', they are all quite snobbish, proud, even if the are not academically outstanding. They cannot take jokes as well as others and can be quite '小氣'. They are also overly protected.

Re MCS, I think it's quite unfair to always have it compared with DGS, though the 2 best girls' schools. Again, media plays a big role. Media only commented on the 10As schools but they never say a lot about scholarship receipients and ivy leagues students. In fact, both DGS and MCS produced a lot of scholars and ivy league graduates, again, same for other schools too, like St Mary, Marymount. But I found that girls from MCS or St Mary are more friendly, down-to-earth and nicer, yet possess self- confidence! Again, agree with ettawong one should really appreciate schools like MCS, St Mary (the non-private primary schools) that even they cannot choose their own students, they can still produce such high standard graduates, credit all goes to the devoted teachers and the hardwork of the students. It's unfair to compare private and non-private schools.

superdada said that he has a bias against kowloon tong schools. Well, i have no bias against net 41 but i personally don't think it's a good net to choose, because there are only 2 reputable schools to choose from: la salle and maryknoll. I think HK island has a much better school net.

So I guess this topic: "ranking of girls' schools" simply based on 'academic result' in many people's eyes. I think a perfect school is to be able to train a 10A student with good personality, which I think all schools should still work hard towards!!!!

(just a footnote: I really appreciate my friends' hardwork that most of them become professionals: i know about 10+girls from DGS and about20+ from MCS: i can tell you that 90% of them are professionals eg doctor, solicitor, lecturer, executive, consultant, financial analyst, certified accountant, architect, engineer, banker.... and some are secretary, fashion buyer, policewoman!)

so why argue that much? rankings are not reliable-- 1.2.3 is useless., i will see in groups. media can produce stereotyping false beliefs.
