課程淺？英文唔夠勁？

Long time no chat! My kid is now in class D, how about yours?

As far as I can remember, P1 class will start to have dictation from Term 2 onwards.   

Regarding english level of school .... to be honest, I find it's a bit simple at lower primary stage. But I think it will soon catch up the standard of other elite schools in upper primary.

However, the chin standard of our school is really good!   You know learning chinese should be more difficult than eng.

真係好耐無chat啦, 因為早排我個女同事生仔, 我要做埋佢果份, 所以做到我cc 下

而家終於都叫做得閑D, 可以上黎吹下水咁囉。

小兒係B班, 中文佢較O.K. 可能始終係母語, 但係英文就麻麻, 而且, 我發現佢有D心散, 成日掛住睇佢鐘意既卡通, 又早咗半個鐘起身, 成日唔係幾夠瞓, 所以功課同成績好似無上年咁好

呢排控制下佢, 唔比咁多電視佢睇, 又好似好番D, 你囝如何?

Hi BillieBug,

D 英文生字只是reader的一part, right? 阿仔的reader也有swishing, splashing, swoshing etc.... 所以我都覺得深咗D, 但本English book只係Hello, Miss Lee, Hello Mr. Lam, Good morning & good afternoon 等...但黓書D 大細階, 標点, spacing, 也要小心記, Rose, Peter, Mrs. Lam, Mr. Lee 对小朋來說也是生字都要串熟.

阿仔英文比較弱, phonic 一般, 但中文讀寫都好好, 例如: 我考佢蝶点寫,  佢識答我:"虫+世+木", 又如"慢"字, 佢話心部加曼谷的曼, 特然間也比佢嚇一跳!

所以小朋友的kindergarten學習也对現有Primary也有小小影響, 但好彩阿仔同我合作, 各方面暫時都掌握倒! Thanks god!

請問你小朋友在那裏讀幼稚園?

Hi beaclem,

Since the school has been moved to WCH, my kid has to take nearly an hour ride to school..... and arrive just on time!  

The change is quite significant as he only took around 20 minutes ride to school last year and yet still got 30 minutes reading time in early morning before the first lesson started.

Lucky that we're able to cope with the change after a month's time.

Just like other kids, my son also loves watching cartoons and TV! But I insist that he has to finish all works beforehand, otherwise the one who suffered most would be himself.

Come on! The school has just started and no need to put too much pressure on ourselves. I trust things will be getting easier and smoother soon. Don't worry! Let's enjoy our times in SPCC! I bet it would be one of the favorite times in their childhood! :loveliness:

Is it the worksheet which ask to fill in the words written in handbook? I am so shocked if it is another format of Dictation because they did not inform parents except asking for spelling only! So we must always keep alert whenever teachers request have any revision.

我個仔英文都是比較差, 一到串字, 我就會好勞氣, 仔成日都冇耐性,亦冇記性!!而家每日串果d生字,都好難日日溫清, 過多兩日d生字又比番晒我!
我一路好想同佢溫習reader, or read more story books, however, 真係好難有時間, 現在課本都未溫得切呢!
btw, 我個仔KG 讀中環的SPC. 你呢?
想八卦下, 你而家有冇為佢安排額外補習班呢? 我聽有d其他家長講, 很多小一已要日日補習? 若冇,你覺得ok嗎?

Kindergarten in St. Margaret Mary Church - Happy Valley.  勝在派位好!

我搵咗PTH tutor, 因為我自已唔認, 但如Maths and Chinese Writing 都係出面learning centre 讀開.

英文自已教, 串字我同阿仔一起串, 主要幫佢拆開個字容易記, 口串幾次, 寫幾次, 先用筆默,

Reader 原來真係要不停讀先得, 初時我讀一句, 佢讀一句, 讀兩三次就叫佢讀, 一小段至一頁咁朗讀, 每晚讀三次, 7日後老師又教新一頁, 但前一頁好熟練可以背潻!
所以你也try 吓這個方法.

其實我路過, 從未入SPCC個column, 因為認得你個名以前在其他school column出現! 阿仔現在在SPC.

STBG其實我都好想同仔仔溫習, 無奈好多時串完果d指定之英文及中文生詞後, 已差不多要go to sleep!
唉, 啱啱昨晚收到英文老師的"溫馨提示"來電, 叫我多d同亞仔溫習串字及phonics, 一定要加緊跟進, 因下學期開始要計分了, 現在, 真係要再早d收工, 同我老公全情投入軍訓亞仔先得!
想當年, 我地學英文真的要自己攪掂, 無需補習又無人guide住, 默書測驗從來自動波, 照計而家d細路應該係醒過我地年代的, 資源又充足些! 我經常同我仔講, 你應該要叻過父母當年水平的啊! 亞仔真係姓賴的, 竟accuse 我同daddy 偷懶, 冇努力同佢溫習, 真係比佢激死!!

Hi, Billibug . Don't just think about your boy's weaknesses, he might be very good at maths,right? May be we are in different calsses, my girl's class is still quite relax-not much homework(only have to spend some time for the internet assisnment everyday!)May be i should start doing revision with her as well!!(but she left all her books in the school everyday!)cheers.

I told my son to ask the class teacher whelther he must do the internet assignments. She said do it if you have time. Well, I really think these assignments are so time consuming and not very worthy as I prefer him to read more books instead. Also, it is harmful to his eyes! So I want him to do less frequently.

I also need to rush back home to follow his homework, spelling, revision and  intruments practice etc.
I do feel it is too busy for him. Actually, he needs to take rest, play,read books. Hope your family can adapt the new life as soon as possible!

Hi TL128,

Actually I find the online exercises are quite good as they can help to brush up comprehension and listening skills. Kids should try it everyday as it takes only several minutes to do. Besides, it may also help to train up their responsibility and self-motivation if they get used to do online exercises every day.

It's a pity that the school does not enrol for eng and chin 8 Octopus this year! btw, I still await for 每日一篇 to restart again soon....

Hi BillieBug,

I can still remember what Ms. Lee said during parents' meeting last year.

She said every student in SPCC is smart and there's no need for them to take any 補習班. They only need to "haer 下、溫習下、睇下書、玩下" after school. Children required some idle time to do nothing but just lying on the sofa to develop imagination freely. Parents had to trust that the school teachers would 教好佢地！ :loveliness:

Thanks for your advice !

I agree that the online exercises are good especially the English one. But my kid really spent too much time on tackling the computer stuff. May be he tries them alternatively.

BTW, do you know whelther the NET teachers really talk to students during recess or lunch time? I asked my son to spot them but he said he could not find them in these days:cry: !

I've just asked my son about your questions.

He said there's no NET teachers coming to the classrooms to chat with students during reccess and lunch time. However, students may go to CNET room (located at 6/F) directly during big recess and lunch time to chat with them in turn.

btw, there is an English public annoucement (by english teachers) of around 10 minutes on Thursday after lunch. Every student has to stay in the classroom listening to the speech. There will be quiz time too and student can write down their answer with their student name/class/number etc and put the paper to the box outside CNET room.Students who got the correct answer will have their names announced in next PA time.
