Re: A call from Good Hope

Agreed. Apart from what I've said, the school should have known that if an applicant can be available for the 2nd interview at any time, this may imply the applicant does not have other comparable choices i.e. no bargaining power at all! So the school may not be able to admit the good students among those on the waiting list.

Anyway, for those whose kids have attended the second interview yesterday, I sincerely hope that all of them are successful.

Re: A call from Good Hope

ckw921,

Did you send any letter to GH last year after you know that your daughter had been put on waiting list?  If yes, did GH reply your letter or they didn't give any response to you until June?

Re: A call from Good Hope

If you like this school, you can ask someone help!  For the school with good reputation, they expect full time mum and request both of them attend interview.  They also expect the parents could participant their school events even in weekdays or do volunteer work for the school.

Re: A call from Good Hope

Someone means your relatives or your best friends, even your maid.  Do you know some schools may only interview the kid, parents are not required.  If parents are required join the interview, they must be in written or oral notice you.  Otherwise, in fact, nobody knows who bring the kid to the school.  I tell you, my daughter will have interview for F1 place next Monday, I will send her there at 8:30am & go back to office 9:00am on time immediately.  The appoint for interview is 9:00am, but I cannot arrange.  Then, my daughter will take public bus & MTR back to home alone.  What's wrong?  Nobody care who bring the kid to interview because I know if the parent need to join in, they will notice us in advance.  Just like GHS, they send written notice requested both parents need to join and verbally tell me if anyone cannot join, please send a letter to explain why we cannot join, that it.  They will understand a lot of business man have business trip & not in HK, but we need to explan.

Re: A call from Good Hope

Last year P.1 waiting list was called up for interview since mid-June after central allocation as some will give up their places.

interview: 2 parts:

kids--draw picture and talk with teacher (like what you did in mid-OCt)
parents--Q&A with the principal.
results known within a few days.

good luck

Re: A call from Good Hope

recall 1 classmate's mom:

the headmistress asked: do u have any question?
the mom (unprepared and so made up such things): what is the approach of this school?

the headmistress then introduced the school, advised there was no need to help and push the girl, etc.  = talk and chat.

I have a feeling that if the school calls u up for the interview, it is likely to take you.  Another e.g., during the knock-door interview for MCS, the headmistress warned, "u have to be prepared, the workload for p.1 is very heavy."

Agreed with you.

If a school totally doen't considerate parents' situation, how can we expect it to considerate the pupils.?

In fact, I can tell you that most of the famous schools (even kindergartens)will not change their scheduled time of interview. Parent needs to try their best to comply, whether you like it or not.

Re: A call from Good Hope

唔俾改時間冇問題, 早少少通知得唔得?
睇下第一輪面試安排, 咁多老老少少企係馬路邊, 危險兼場面混亂, 就知呢間學校有幾 considerate.

Thanks so much for responses from all of U.
Yeh, I admitted that I am a demanding guy and do have expectations as I have to pay for. Frankly speaking, it would not be a problem for me to walk away half day in a very short notice as I got over 70 days leave balance in hand and my employment is permanent. So I guess you already know my job. But I have to respect my boss and my work. By the same token, no matter a school's reputation is good or not, at least they should respect the applicants. A less than 1-day notice, to me, is too harsh. If this is a problem of the clerical staff, I would say that the Principal should take note of this.
Needless to say, parents love their own kids. But given the current job market and economic situation, even for myself, I still have to strike a balance until the day I won the Mark 6 or 3T.

I think I was a few GHS parents to step out and stand on your side. You know why, my daughter now is studying in P6 this coming academie year and I wont let my daughter go thru secondary section. Of course, my daughter and I also agreed to do that.

This event refresh my memory when my little daughter's interview with difference primary schools (now she had a seat from DGJS). Those primary schools are private also and famous also. Although we are communicating with those clerical staff of those schools, they even more polite and helpful. When we met their headmistress or headmaster, they also very nice.

If you thought the clerical attitude like that, their supervisor also simliar as well.
