After finishing F.4, your son will attend Grade 11 in the US. In theory, he may have altogether two years to prepare for application to the university. In practice, high school / Prep school students in the States starting the process of applying for U in the 2nd half of grade 11, say taking SAT, SATII, APs etc. And you have to submit grades / GPA from high school from grade 9 (of course, grades from grade 11 and and the first semester of grade 12 are most important). Unless money is an important consideration, go to the States the earlier, the better.
To me going to the US after F.5 is too late unless you target the Community College (CC)which I don't think it is the most appropriate way of studying in the States. If you choose this path, you may want to go the the West Coast cos more CC have transfer agreements with U in the west coast. In the East coast , you have almost no chance at all to be able to transfer to a more than decent U. Any way, the kind of transfer is getting more difficult even in the East Coast.
As for the boy/girl school, I would say single sex education is no longer a fashion. However, there are girls whose parents help them choose a girls' school. Dana Hall in the East Coast is a popular girl school. As for boy, Avon Old Farm is also not bad. |
