Dear parent,

Please be sure that IB itself doesn't mean anything. It just the different approach of teaching and learning. The support from school, teacher and parent are very different from the existing local education structure and that's why all the teacher conducting IB related subjects are required to re-train for this approach(that's why I don't believe DSS can run local and IB in line except for those unlimited resource DSS. It also create labelling among student as other parent mentioned). Within the IB structure, there also weak student, parent should take care since if IB result is not good enough, there has the effect on how the child further their study.

It just an option for parent who hate the local examin. structure.

I think why many of the DSS and private school offer IBD options is because of the uncertainty of the New Senior Secondary Curriculum (NSS). The F.2 kids of this year will be the first batch of students that will study the curriculum and sit in the corresponding exam...The more familiar A-level and AS level exams will become history. IBD becomes more established than NSS.

If you have been to the ebd/334 webpage and read information about the NSS, you will know that the NSS is very different from A-level and AS-level and very similar to IBD.

Therefore I wouldn't say it is impossible for a school to allow students to attempt both. Possibly the school have the experience of IBD is in advantage to face NSS. Besides, compared with NSS, IBD is more established in assessment criteria. May be doing IBD is more guaranteed.
