My son's studied at St Stephen's long ago and I've friend who studied St Clare.
If your girl is an outgoing girl, St Stephen's is a good choice.  Other than academic, they stressed on activities like choir, speech and sports.  Kids therefore enjoyed their balance school life much.

Thanks for your information.
In fact I've registered at St. Clare today and I'm going to register St. Stephen also on next Monday.
I would like to take some more time to do some research before makeing the final decision. I don't want to regret afterwards.
Basically, my husband and I go for St. Stephen.

If money and time is not a concern, St. Stephen is better, esp. Eng and Mandarin environment.
But do you mind having your girl stay in dorm in P.6.
P.6 is quite an important year to maintain close touch with them before their rebellious age set in.
For sons, I would choose St. Stephen's without doubt.

Tatama123,

I gather from different BK threads that you are struggling among St Stephen's, St Paul Boys, St Jo, Ramondi, etc.  My gut feeling is that you always prefer St Jo, and you say that you son prefer St Jo.  You also say that you are not very confident about the St Stephen's College (secondary)'s standard, and you are concerned about the school fee, its distance and location.  So ...... why the struggle and all the questions???

The point is - what do you want for your kid?  A traditional school with long history and fame which you are very comfortable with or proud of if you son is one of it?

Or, an all-rounded education with good balance between academic performance and other development (physical/music/arts/personal development/language ......?

Both my husband and I prefer the latter and we do not have any struggle at all.

No matter what you choose, hope it is best for your kid.  Hope you can make your decision very soon.

One more point -

St Stephen's - whole day, co-ed, eng/PTH
St Jo - half day, boys, eng (??)

They are completely different. Both are good and it really depends on what you want.

I am an old grads from St.Stephen's College.  In my
memories,  this is a school that very encourage students to 'speak out'.  Students are welcome to ask and teachers are pleased to answer.  There is no 'silly ' question in this school. There are a lot of 'things' to
learn apart from books.  Music, track and feild sports,
swimming, cross-country, all kinds of ball games,  listen to
concerts..........if you want your child to have an all-rounded personality, this is the school.  Don't worry about the boarding life in P6,  it might be his/her the most memorable year in her preperatory years!

No doubt that $$$$$ is really an object in this school!  But its all worth it!

One thing I'd like to commend on, which is ,  this is a school that far away from everything. So, it means that there will be less 'temptation'/influences from other school kids!   Pros or cons,  up in your mind!  Good luck!

Be understand your kid and help him/her to choose a right school as they still have a long long way to run.

BoBoCute
Thanks for your message.
To be honest, I'm ok with my girl stay in dorm in P.6. In fact, before we hand in the application form, we are prepared for this. Otherwise, we won't consider this school at all.
Besides, we have relative (also a girl) who is now in P.5, I can see girl at that stage is quite independent, with their own mind (of course still under parents' supervision). Thus, I don't think my girl will have problem with staying in the dorm in P.6. Also, we have only one child, I think this is a kind of training for her to be more independent and get along with others. This will benefit her in the long run.
If we have more kids, I definitely will send her to St. Clare without doubt. As I always wish a girl to be in St. Clare style - polite, lady, good in English.
Since both schools are good and are my favourite, that's why I've headache in choosing between them.

I really understand your concern and your concern is right!  St.Stephen's is not an academic result oriented school. It is an 'all-rounded personality' oriented school!  So, back to qqzzma's topic---what do you and your kid demand from school?

Back in my old days,  majority (<70%) of the students would study aboard.  It just because it is a 'tradition/trend'.  And they mostly ,easily got accepted from top universities/colleges because of the personalities and the 'varieties' of their profolios.

But I am glad that you have a clear mind from what you are looking for your kid!  Good luck!

qqzzma, desma,
St Jose ...

I totally understand your worries.  But just relax!  your son is not even in P1 yet!  There are at least 12 more years to go before he gets in the university.  But I will try my best to give comments on your questions.

1.  Their target were very clear for local universities/colleges.  Most of them got accepted to the programme of what they applied.  Some of them went to the work force, and some worked for their families' business.

2. This is a tricky one!  I personally think whether the kid being accepted or not is depends on the kid's own ability rather than which school he is studying in! Right!  For DSS next year, well ,I have no idea and cannot foresee such a "BIG" change! But I can tell you that the principal is a very well-educated, full of patience and whole hearted lady!  Hope it helps!

3.  It was not 'relax' at all! But it was 'well-balanced"!

4.  I have classmates start studying overseas from F1!  It depends on $ and the child's personality!

5.  I know nothing about St.Joesph, so I am not appropriate in making any comment on such comparison.  Sorry!

EDB allocation result should be out by now.  Make up your mind and go for it.

Also, it would be kind if the place(s) can be released to other kids early to ease their/parents mind'.
