Ssdiana,
1) I think no school is perfect. There is always room for improvement.
For the orientation session for the P.1 parents, I agreed that it can be organized somewhat better based on my last year’s experience.
2) Although TSL is regarded as a multi-cultural school, it is still a local English primary school but just with “international feel”. There are about 30% of non-Chinese pupils and 70% Chinese pupils in each class.
There are Multi-cultural Day to be held in every 1-2 years and French Week every year.
As the pupils are coming from about 18 nationalities, I think it is not easy
to hold cultural events for each country.
3) Most Chinese and non-Chinese pupils can get along with each other quite well.
4) School class starts from 8:30 a.m.and the pupils need to return to the school before 8:10 a.m.
You will not find such details in the school web site now until the first day of the school.
Normal music and swimming class will be finished before 3:30 p.m. so your child can take the school bus back home. In case your child will join the extra musical instrument class or other ECAs, there are extra school buses serving certain locations only, depending on where you live.
5) From my personal observation, most teachers in the school
are very nice and devoted.
You can feel a very strong team spirit all the time.
6) As I mentioned recently, there is relatively more chance for the Chinese pupils to speak English in this school, when compared to some local schools, because of the non-Chinese schoolmates.
But if you compare it to some international schools, there is still room for some pupils to improve.
To some extent, language environment can be “created” even at home if you speak English to your child and watch English TV channels or VCDs.
I believe education is always a joint effort among the school, teachers, parents and the kids.
