any news from DBSPD?

Hi, our whole family has been out of town since last Sat! I think the letter from dbs is still in our mailbox back in HK!!

Can anybody tell me if our son is admitted, when should we need to go for the registration? We won't be back until next Thur...... :-|

Congratulation to those who got a seat at the school.

I believe the school have their ways to choose the boys.
They don't just pick the boys from the famous kinders.  In fact,  many of them come from normal kinders.    I think it mainly based on the boys performance during the interview.

My son is from SC. He is strong in music and swimming. He got some prizes/awards from some well-known competition. I know some SC kids also got the offer!

He is not so 'talkative', but he is not shy.

I think I will go to do the registration on 6 Jan!

Really? Then I will go with my friend on Saturday. Actually I want to register on Thur because I think the waiting time will be shorter than on Saturday.

Hi eemay,

It is just my guess, please don't hold me on that. I was also going to go on Sat (last day of reg), but the letter said that office hour is only in the morning. What if there is a long queue and they don't finish reg by 12 noon. I'm sure they will still complete the reg, but i'll hate to be the one causing them to run overtime.

My son is so lucky to get a place in DBSPD.  For my case, I did not send him to study any interview training course.  Instead, since mid-September this year, I spared times to do some mook interviews with him at home (drilling for standard questions and creative thinkings).  My son does not have any special achievements on sports or music, but he is quite strong on presentations and logical thinking (which are very crucial for interviews).  

So, what could I advise you is to spare more times to read books with him (explore knowledge), lead him to think (logical thinking and creative training) and ask him to tell you what he sees and feel (presentation skill).  You may find my advice quite broad and not specific, but these are my genuine tips for other parents.  Hope you find them useful!

Your information is very useful.  I don't intent to send him to a interview class as I think he has a basic idea about poilte.

May I know where you find the questions of mook interviews to train your son ?

For the standard questions, I referenced to the question pool previously complied by some BK partents (大路問題，亦是基本且必要準備) or you may have a look on those called interview 天書 where you may buy from book store.  Whereas for training on logical thinking and creativity, I like to read different kind of books with my son (no matter Chinese, English or picture books, so longer as it contains topics that he is interested in).  

Do always ask your son why? what? how? If.....? and let him think more.  Don't waste money to buy too much books, just go to library to explore what your son likes.

Sorry for not updating, been really busy...

I am happy that my son also got accepted.

I agree with Flymame that you need to know the basic questions like name, school, what you like to do during the weekends and stuffs.

I also noticed that the interviewers like asking the kids to look at pictures and tell a story or tell some differences in the pictures. I think it helps them to see whether the child is ready to speak and ready to observe as well as reasoning.

I think "mock interviews" are good, we asked some of the kids of same age to group together and have some kind of "mock interviews". We didn't apply for many schools, but some of the friends attended interviews that require the kids to speak up in a group or need to wait in a group before the interview, so in that sense, it is helpful to the child to have a chance to "mimic" the real thing especially when your kid is shy.

I also notice that sometimes it is important to remind the kid that he needs to look at people when he speaks, that's basic manners but I think sometimes they just forget.

Dear parents,
There will be Open House in DBS on 11/2/2007. We went there last year with my son when he was in K2. He love the school very much. You can visit the classroom of DBSPD, library (very luxurios), computer room and see the home work of students. Don't forget to buy DBS souvenir ...socks, school beg, tie, mug, note book and note pad.....
My son and  I will go again this year to see his future teachers and classmates. See if we can meet you there.
