Re: Letter Land
Dear all,
I plan to start home teaching of Letterland to my sons. Actually, the sharing in BK drew my attention on this product two years ago. I know that it is a trend to let kids learn about phonics. It is one of the main focuses in the Primary English new curriculum guide.
When my elder son was in K1, there was no phonics teaching in his school. So he joined a afterschool phonices class which was organised by a new brand company. I found that my son could not learn a lot. I knew little about the class. I was too busy ( the third baby eas born) and seldom did any follow-up.
Last year, phonics was part of the curriculum in his school. They used the textbook " honics for Kids" from Longman. From my point of view, it is a commerical decision rather than considering the quality of the product. You know the marketing skill of Longman is really excellent! Many of the primary schools and near 100% of EMI Schools used their products.
At the end of last year, I joined the intensive one day training course in Letterland. I was interested in usind this product. However, I was still busy ( a working mun with three kids + self studying) . As I wanted to have a good starting, I kept all things in my mind.
Up to this moment, I have already finished my self study, I can concentrate on this BIG PROJECT.
I went to the showroom yesterday. I was shocked as the price of some product is much higher than before. The teaching guide is over $500. The software is $775( it was available few months ago). The Early year Handbook is out of stock. Finally, I only bought the ABC Book and the magnetic letters.
I need to go out now. Latter, I will share what are my concerns on buying this product. |
