我淨係知"直資"=學校不參加派位+學費貴過津校
之前聽聞喇沙否定左轉直資, 咁St. Jo. 同喇沙一個會，好難自己轉瓜。
Catholic schools so far 好少轉直資，喇沙, MCS, 華仁, etc. none of them turn to DSS, right?
你中唔中意轉？我幾OK bor.

我兒有幸在「自已分配」中獲派升讀小學。

個人而言，我對目前香港教育制度全無期望。自5 bands 改為3 bands後，不少名校如英皇、華仁等成績一落千丈。

St. Jo 是一所好小學，但一班學生40+人，共8班。SPCC一班28人，P1&2每班有一位班主任和一位Teaching Assistant。DBSPD一班30人，共5班。

St. Jo College F1學位有限，Band 2頭同學可能派去其它中學。其競爭之慘烈，不足為外人道。

DSS一條龍學校，既收學費，亦有政府資助，更有慷慨富有old boys alumini fund，改善軟硬件，自已制定教學模式和內容，自然可以“策略性”用12年栽培小朋友。

以上只就個人條件而作主觀感想。

Hi Lelu,

Have you make up your mind to choose St Jo or St Paul Boys yet?

Have heard a lot about the competition in St Jo Prim, but the pressure comes from the parent most of the time.

As a parent, I think I will also push and encourage my son to do his best, if he really can't stand it, then find another way for him.

Both St Jo and St Paul are good school, it is really hard to choose. I don't think I will have any chance in the first round next year, I also need to survey any good and suitable private / DSS school.

Is it really 40+ in one class?
It is too big if so.

Should be between late 30 and early 40.

It is same as other famous sub-vented schools such as Wah Yan and La Salle.

Hi there!

I have registered to study St. Jo.

Before doing that, I have done my best to do a survey (including asking for views from BK parents, comment from my son's extra-curricular activity masters, old boys of St. Paul College, etc.) on St. Paul College.  The reply is: good in the past, fade now and unknown in future.  I even bought the recent published Ming Pao 06/06升中選校全攻略to study.

If you would like to apply for famous DSS schools next year, let me give you some tips:
- one of the parents becomes a housewife or housedad;
- prepare for a folder to show how your kid and your family "fit" to study there.

But interested to know how many such certificates can a kid just finished K2 get ??        I can't imagine.

1. My view is based on practical experience on applying those famous DSS schools.

2. My view was same as yours when my kid is studying K2 but if you go to read the "小學雜談"討論區，you will be shocked by how some parents have been "strategically" equipped or nutured their children.  Probably some other parents cannot accept or agree such approach despite that there is the game rule for the P1 application.

My daughter is in K3, born in Sept,2000. When she was in her K2, I also got the same question & thought it was ridiculous! However, after 實戰經驗 of this year , I find that it is possible for 大仔/大女. Try to think if 2 girls started to learn violin at their 5 ,but 1 is 大女, the other is 細女, by the time of interview, let's say Oct., 大女has already learnt piano for >  10mths(some even is 大大女, may be learnt for> 1yr), but for 細女---just starts. That's why they will have enough time to get the cert. to put in the folder!Having such proof of ability, that's why the famous schools tend to accept 大仔/大女!

For my girl, of course failed!

Famous DSS ? You mean DGS, St Paul Co-ed, etc.?  I think your daughter failed, not necessarily because of her ability.  These schools have limited seats, but have to accomodate many kids who have relations (eg. old boy/girl 's kids; kids belong to same church; kids recommended by 'powerful' people, etc. etc.)
I believe whether your daughter can play piano is only a minor point.  非戰之罪 !  Don't be upset !!

A girl being accepted by SPCC got piano level 2, a boy got violin level 1, the headmistress said the school needs their talents.

OR 呢個衹係佢in public 的官式答案jar?
SPCC咁少位，聽聞80% seats should go to kids with relations。fail 呢間(or DGS) 好正常姐。
又或者P2再試下插班，P2好多學校都再洗牌ga la.
另外又有咁多好學校, eg. Mary Mount, St. Paul Convent, even St. Stephen (赤柱) is good ah (律政司黃仁龍囡都係考呢間).
