The performance of the orchestra was just so so but I was really proud of the professionalism of the students & teachers who could form such an orchestral team in just a few months.  The management & teachers had made the opening so grand & impressive.

Principal Cheung, the ex-Pricipal of Phoenix, also attended last night.

Prof. Mak's speech was outrageously boring.

When will RC have a open day or induction briefing to public?  I would like to get more information and look around the school enviornement.

Also How many students per one class?

I agree. Mr Kenny's speech is comparatively more inspiring. Love the orchestra performance, love the "Heal the World" sessions and love to see the smiling faces (students, parents, teachers, security guards .. ... etc.) around the campus. No doubt, it's a good school. Well done, Mr Kenny and Ms Powell.

Does Any RC parent know if there will be any increase in RC's school fee in 07/08?  ESF schools have announced their fee increase already.

(星島日報報道)每年獲政府資助約二億六千萬元的英基學校協會，八月新學年雖不再被政府削資，但為開設新職位及擴展中文教學等計畫，決定連續第二年加學費，中、小學新學費分別是八萬五千元及五萬四千三百元，增幅介乎約百分之三至五，須獲教統局批准。

　　英基中、小學去年已加學費約百分之五至九，英基行政總監杜茵妮昨致函逾一萬二千名家長，英基已向教統局申請，由八月新學年起，屬下六所中學學費由八萬二千多元增至八萬五千元，增幅約百分之三﹔十所小學則加費逾百分之五，由五萬一千多元增至五萬四千三百元。

Up to now, we still haven't received any official announcement about the increase of school fee in RC.  But I chatted with a parent who went to RC's Open Day months ago that she heard that there will be $500 (=8%) increase of the school fee for primary in 2007-08, limited to new students only.  The reasons for the increase was more or less same as those of ESF's.

I wondered how can the school only increase the school fee for new students but remain unchanged for existing students???!!!  At the same time, I thought it would also be unreasonable to have the fee increase after only one school year.  But according to the fact that the school fee is increased in other ESF schools for two consecutive years, I would say I have to get myself prepared for this too.

The current fees for 2006-07 are the same as what you mentioned here.  The rumour that I heard was that the fee for new students in primary will be increased to $67500 but I have no idea about the secondary one.  Hope the increase of fees is really a rumour.

Although I am not sure whether legally such offers are contractual, I guess it would be quite odd (and inapproapriate) if they decided to increase the fees AFTER issuing all these offers to new students. So I presume the fees would remain the same next year.

I presume you are asking about primary school. They just have textbooks for Chinese in primary.

Thanks.  How they teach other subjects if no textbook ?  So the parents can't trace the progress of their kids.  May I know more about this ?

I think their teaching style is more activity based instead of textbook based. You would be able to tell your kid's level by the homework worksheet that he is given, mainly for Chinese and Math. For English, they have spelling test so you can also have a sense of their level. Also, the kids are being assigned to read books at different level, based on each individual's proficiency. For Chinese, they also have dictation, and textbook, exercise books.

If my kids isn't studying at IS kg but her verbal english is quite good, do you think she can easy to get a seat in primiary section ?

Is that run IB from primary to secondary ?  My concerns is many people said kids who study in IS, will be more opened.  Is that true when you see the student in secondary section ?

As far as I know, the key criteria to get in RCHK is English proficiency. Seems local kg is not an issue. But you better ask the school admin directly. Cos' I'm not too sure.

Open or not ? That depends on your definition. True that their secondary school students look less disciplined in terms of their dress code, shorter skirt, dyed hair, earrings, make-up etc. But that does not necessarily mean that they are misbehaved. On the other hand, open can mean open-minded, free and independent thinking, more out-spoken, etc.

I think family education is also very important and it can have a 'balance' effect vs the school education.

Really thanks so much for your sharing.

Actually, I want to put her in primary IS & transfer her to DSS secondary school.  The main reason is I just want her to learn proficiency in English.  Yes I agreed, family education is also very important but peer's effect can't be under estimated.  As I think/agreed students look less disciplined will also more or less find in a local school.  

Just to say, it is very hard to make up my mind because both of them will have its own adv./disadv.
Leave it or take it ?  

Anyway, RC is still my target school for my daughter.

The place is nice and has ESF background. But, have you thought about their management for the school?  Do you think it really alright?
