We have to complete a reading log in the holidays. My girl decides to go for quantity instead of quality!   I expect we have reading logs for all other holidays? Got to find a way to persuade her not to be so childish...

She read 4 books already in 4 days among all the festive activities. I won't be able to keep up.  It is almost impossible for me to screen books now.  She also has access to all kids of books in the school library.

But thanks to you, I now know a little and will discuss with her.

By the way, you do not allow topics like these until 18/21 years old?  Material like these come in all shapes and sizes. Better discuss these than to make them a taboo?

Well, I know I cannot screen every book she read, and I cannot stop them from accessing these kind of books, but I won't pass this series to my daughters in their early teens because I think it's like a kind of endorsement for a mum to share this kind of novel to daughters.

Yes, they are really good for kids with an interest in Space and Science.  There are 3 books in the series.

If I already have Horrible Science - Space, stars and Slimy aliens and Usborne's The story of Astronomy and Space, would you think George and the big bang a duplicate?

Although I have not read them, I don't think they overlap.  So what if they overlap, the Hawkings books look really good and they have certain story elements mixed with facts.  And my girls love them.  I recommended them to all kids in EK long long ago.

I borrowed the books from the library. My gal said George's secret key to the universe is the most interesting one among the three.  It is the first book of the series. But my gal didn't read the three books in sequence.

From your experience, is it after magic tree house?

I only have one book of this series and my child has not paid attention to it yet so may not comment much by personal experience.

Instead , my child loves reading the Horrible series including Horrible Science.

Of course, the Hawkings books are about 280 pages each and Magic tree house is just 40 pages(?).

Horrible series are very good too. But my girl finds them too .... Errr .... horrible.

My girl just loves all horrible and disgusting things, so horrible science is just her cup of tea.

My child laughs when reading these horrible books. Instead, he's afraid of Harry Potter books and movies so the HP books are always lonely after arriving my home.

Oh, what a shame, my girl absolutely loves the HP series and she is now reading them second time.  I will shelve the series if she want to read them the third round
