Hi zoewcl,

I found the Letterland software is very good. Not only it contains the sound of each letter, alphabet songs and handwriting songs, it also has phonics games and activities which is very interesting.

My son like to play the games in software. If he can get the answer correctly, he will show a "proud" face and smile.

If you buy letterland software, actually you may not need to buy alphabet songs CD cos the songs are duplicated (except for the new look verion one).

I did not join parent's course cos it's expensive ($1,200 for 4 lessons). I prefer using the $$ to buy teacher's guide instead.

For phonics kids, you may go to GC's website (always shown at top of BK) and take a look.

Hi cpmummy,

I tried to look for those products of Letterland in UK. In fact, I could find some in WHSmith, Waterstone or Borders but the quantity is less than the TKS store in HK. Besides, the price is not cheap as well, so I didnt buy any here.

Recently, my daughter's nursery has some book promotion. can anyone tell me whether 9.99 pounds for ORT, level1-4 +read at home handbook (13 books in total) is a good bargain or not? coz i have no idea about how much does it cost in hk. and we could buy 3 dictionaries of ORT ( Maths dictionary, ordinary dictionary and science dictionary) at 4.99 pounds.

Thanks for your help......but I just can't wait until Sept to go to England. So I have already bought alot of "Letterland" products from ETC and also from Amazon already.
Can you describe clearly what series of ORT you have seen? as I have the ORT catalogue from ETC in hand but I can't found the one you are talking about in the catalogue.

Delivery charge is very expensive in ordering books from Amazon. Besides ETC, I would usually bid Letterland items from www.ebay.co.uk

Regarding gogocat's posting, I think she refers to the new published ORT Read At Home series. There are 4 levels and each level has 3 books --> so total 12 books plus a parent's guide.

The marked price is GBP3.99 per book la.

If you buy more than GBP19 in Amazon, they offer free delivery within UK. So I just order it and ask them it to send to my friend's UK address, as she will come back HK end of this month.

I didn't buy any from ebay.co.uk up to now, as I can't find any items I am looking for there, they have alot item in classic version but not the NEW LOOK. So I decide to buy in ETC as the price for all "Letterland" item in Amazon more or less the same as ETC. Unless, Amazon offer discount like 20% or 30% off then it will be cheaper to buy in Amazon. Otherwise, I think better to buy in HK.

I see............So I think those are not available in ETC yet as I can't found it in the catalogue.

pl any mum can tell the letterland story why 'ai' go together and sound 'a' - long vowel?

'I think we must also treat the “two vowel men go walking” concept with care. Obviously, it does not work for words like “eight”, “obey” and “great”.' - so how do Letterland explain ei, ey and ea.

Hi all,

I went to the showroom at Taikoo and bought the teacher's guides and Code Cards of Program 1 & 2. My daughter is very interested in the cards and started playing them when we were in the car on our way home. I will study the teacher's guide and see if there is anything to share with you.

Hi, All,

i am interesting inthe letterland story book as i find some of them at the library and memorized that there are topics discussed Letterland and read all the posting here.

I am interesting in letterland right now and my son had learn jolly phonics previously and find out that the jolly phonics didn't told us how to blend the words but letterland had more complete system.

i will go to Taikoo and have a look.  ANyone can suggest me  what to buy for Programme one as my son is utlmost five years old.

You may bid both ORT Read at Home series and Letterland story book from UK ebay.

fyi, I got full set of Reat at Home (incl 12 books covering 4 stages and 1 parent guide) at GBP27 incl postage and full set of letterland story books (20 books covering from Annie Apple to Zig-zig Zebra) at GBP 26.5 incl postage.

Try Commercial Press's online bookstore if you want to buy Read At Home locally.  Unfortunately, they miss out one of the levels.  Paddyfield is selling some extended stories of Read at Home, which I'm also interested in.

Would you re-sell Read At Home as I miss out its Level 2?  How do you find Letterland's phonics?  I'm still not sure if kids are interested in those pictures with an alphabet on (they look very strange to me).  Can a kid follow it easily?  Many thanks!
