For the purpose of discussion, I would like to seek your views:

I got the impression that Dr. SO belived if the children have interests, they can do it very well.  Otherwise, it is useless to push them.  

For my understanding, even though the children got interest in some areas at the very beginning, their  interest will be decreased if he found it was difficult to have further improvement at some stage. In this situation, should we push them (if encouragement not work) ??

Anthea,Ymmon, 今個月真係好好..忙, 上星期游泳班要考升班試, 今個星期體操比賽, 一星期要練足三日, 每次都要幾個鐘, 昨晚剛上完堂, 返到屋企都十點幾, 馬上沖涼瞓覺. 過兩星期又要校際小提琴比賽, 又要抽時間同個鋼琴伴奏夾琴. 所以溫書重邊有充足時間呀 ! 至於品學兼優都是"猛"車邊咋.

雯雯, 我覺得轉堂時都應該保持安靜, 小朋友唔多唔小都會講野, 不過唔好太大動作o羅. 以免影響"x"序(唔記得點寫添). 如果係小息就叫佢地暢所欲言喇.

琴日比亞仔"客"士我,一放學反來就CRY話隻眼仔"吉"陣好同痛, 放工啦啦林同佢睇眼科, 佢整陣眼角膜醫生照比我睇白色一大達.
原來佢琴朝早上堂囉晝時唔小心比晝角吉到, 但又唔咁講比MISS聽, 只係講比D小朋友知, 陰公搞到痛多半日, 佢真係好惾豬.

真係唔明佢MISS有嘜咁可怕呵, 主動D講比MISS知就唔洗痛多半天, 搞到我肉痛死.

I think most P1 boys are not mature enough to 認真 & with 正確態度 to 學習, they just like to play.  But we may try to arouse their interest to learn.  My way is to arouse their interest to learn through leisure reading before they are forced to learn in school curriculum. I am not saying curriculum in our school is really boring, but the fact is whenever learning becomes a duty, they regard it is boring.  My son hates to do homework, revision and dictation as most other boys.  But he likes reading.  Since he can sit in a high chair to have solid food, books are usually his side dishes for I will sit down with him, read with him while feeding him.  In a no TV and no computer environment, reading is a lot of fun for a kid especially when his mom does not belong to housechores or other businesses, but wholly belongs to him and reading.  In reading, my voice and my facial expression will change according to the story and he will laugh rolling on the floor.  Hence he learns lots of knowledge and vocabulary, also comprehension skills and composition skills. And my main point of doing revision is to dictate vocabulary.
On the other hand, if the parents watch TV while keep on telling the kids to study, it is useless for we are not acting as a good role model.

Several ways:
1. Make the task interesting:
My son regards the writing the word 獸 is very difficult.  I ask him if the 2 口s on the top of the word looks like 2 eyes of a monster獸? The 田 in the middle looks like the nose with 4 nosetrils of獸, the一looks like the mustache of獸, and the口in the bottom looks like the mouth of獸.  Lastly, the 獸walk like a dog, so the獸 has a 犬in it. Is it easy or difficult? He says it is easy with a smile then.

For the English paper, my son said that he is not sure whether there was 7 or 9 pages. He finished just on time and no time for checking. He has no confidence whether he's correct or not.
For the Chinese paper, he haven't done the challenge part, just finished the main part then time's up.
