Re: Down Syndrome - Not disable, differently abled.....
regina,
no single word yet. still in the sound making stage - deidei, nainai, baba, mama and a few others. han han's problem is she is not consistent in what she has learnt. she would stick to the 'deidei, dada' channel for some days (e.g. we say to her ''han han, say 'baba'" but she would answer 'deidei', in fact before she could speak 'baba'), then after some time she suddenly shifts to the 'baba' channel, then when i point to her bottle and say "han han, say 'nainai'" she would answer 'baba'. then after some time she again shifts to the 'deidei' channel and seems to forget 'baba'/'mama'.
one thing i've learnt (still learning) is to have a lot of patience - keep giving her as many opportunities to learn and practise, then only wait for the time when she is able to make it. another thing is not to focus on what she cannot do and get frustrated but to appreciate her (regina, i can see you are very good at this), even very little thing e.g. her smile. i still remember when han han was just a baby one thing i appreciated about her was she had good ng ng |
