原來我個女會tum人開心架, 等我返去問下佢, 笑下佢先!

P4係第一年可以自己跟學校去旅行, 不過我個女係P5, 好細粒, 是嗎? 上年係去MELBORNE, 佢唔肯去;其實每年十月的term break學校都有2個旅行, 一東一西, 今年東去杭州;西去法國; 東要6千多元(7日);西要一萬三千多元(10日);在暑假也有一個去新加坡的SHIP PROGRAM,3星期, 第一星期是遊覽新加坡, 第2-3星期是入讀當地學校, 我女一年班時我們帶她去, 為她選了RAFFLES GIRLS PRIMARY SCHOOL比佢讀, 自己安排校車,租了Clementi住,一行成十個人好開心呀!

我當年都有幫阿女參加派位,不過好似妳個女咁,無論個女或我們自己都很喜歡這間學校, 所以在放榜前已交留位費,到現在都覺得很值得;所以今年都幫細女申請了py1;

妳就好啦, 妳個女肯唱馬拉歌妳聽, 我叫好多似個女唱我聽佢都唔肯, 不過我相信個細女一定會唱我聽, 佢好喜歡表演架!

我都問過我先生好唔好參加中學派位, 因見有d人都派左去很出名的學校, 不過我先生覺得既然即使派到都唔會去讀, 費事害左d師弟師妹啦, 因怕d學校會blacklist我地, 認為比左學位都唔來讀就唔好喇!

今年既小一派位, 我放棄左參加, 原因係當我同亞女講小一可能會係另一間學校讀既時候, 佢喊到七彩, 佢話好鐘意呢間學校, 仲話只可以係SIS讀, 去第二間學校讀既話, 佢會好唔開心架喎.......我都覺得佢真係好鬼鐘意呢間學校, 每日係屋企都唱好多好多次校歌, 做做下功課都係度哼住首校歌, 仲有"馬拉文"個首歌, 佢又真係唱得幾好聽....

昨天同一個同學仔既媽咪(佢有3個仔女係SIS讀緊)傾電話, 佢同我講一定要俾個女P1既時候參加dance 同埋choir, 佢話教既老師又nice, 小朋友去比賽多數都有獎攞, 仲有佢個仔係中樂隊, 老師比較嚴d, 但係班小朋友又真係學到野同埋彈得好好, etc....(你知0麻, 當我聽完佢既分享, 我真係覺得呢間學校不單只令到學生愛學校同有歸屬感, 連我地呢班家長都好有歸屬感).

Dear parents,

How many lessons per week are conducted in Chinese (Mandarin)? Or how many subjects are conducted in Chinese? I heard others said the % among Eng and Chin is about 50:50.  Is that true?

they have got different sessions in one day, e.g. phonic, snack time, PE... half of them conduct in putonghau and half of them in english. that means sometimes PE lesson is conducted by english teacher, sometimes by the chinese teacher.
chinese is definitely not a problem in SIS. For english, i just need to wait and see. would like to switch her to other school if there is not much progress in english.

Hi everyone,

Just handed in the application for PY1 last Friday and toured round the school. My daughter is now studying K1 in Caritas St. Francis Kindergarten, very nice school. But she's passive and speaks little cantonese. I don't want to put her in local schools which will make her more passive. I like the school and trust that it is suitable for her.

For those of u who have kids studying PY there, do u find the air-conditioning of certain areas, like the PY classroom and canteen, rather cold. Do the kids get cold and flu often?

just want to clarify that only sessions that do not relate to the core subjects will be conducted in 50% PTH and 50% Eng, right?

If the core subjects are also conducted in the same way, won't the student get confused?

U can put a jacket in her school bag everyday and ask her to put it on anytime when she feels cold in the classroom / canteen (but they will normally go to the canteen once a month for celebrating of  birthday).  My daughter said that she doesn't feel cold in the classroom. She got flu 1 time only when she was in PY1.

I really hope my daughter can make it to PY. She speaks Eng alright, but needs a lot of warm up in front of strangers. I just fear that she wouldn't say much during the interview.

They used to speak in Putonghau to the chinese teacher and english to the english teacher. besides, they dont allow to speak cantonese to teachers as far as i know.

So far, i dont notice my little one has got any confusion. yet, my little one will mix up cantonese with putonghau.

My son studies in SIS since PY1, he is now P6.
He never confuses among Mandarin and English.
Although he is not the top in the class, his both languages are good.

May I know can your son speaks fluent English?  If the students there only speaks good Mandarin but so so English.  Then I prefer to let my child study in KCS.  Please kindly share your experience with me.

My speaks fluent English and Mandarin. Actually, his English is better than Chinese. For example, he prefers to read English books and English TV / movies.

SIS has a good environment for the students to build up their language. When I joined the SIS field trip / picnic, all children speak in English among themselves.

SIS arranges the students to join the "Trinity College London - Grade Exams in Spoken English".
My son joined 4 years, he got distinctions for 3 years, and the P3 test was credit.

原來識"tum"人個個真係唔係我個女架! 佢話佢只拿紙比人射及沒有試個得一個人喎!

昨晚去聽法國之旅的briefing,原來好多家長都帶同小朋友去聽,我個女打電話來問我佢用不用去,我仲話不用;原來小朋友去聽埋都好好,一來去以增加小朋友的興趣,d points真的很吸引,加埋本身係法國人的老師的介紹更加吸引;二來都有好多小朋友問問題,咁d老師就知道小朋友concern什麼!所以返到屋企立即一五一十講一次比女女聽...

佢地真幸福,有3個老師和校長同行,3個老師都識法文,年年都攪這類活動,所以我都好放心!所以個校長叫家長:no mobile phone(費事小朋友分心不能集中精神欣賞景物及講得唔清唔楚令父母擔心及 no gameboy;也不用call hotel留message. 佢地會通知學校報平安;pocket money,camera,vedio cam要小朋友自己保管,是一個自理的學習;medicine要識自己食;佢地有晒醫院的資料,有什麼事會送去醫院!但要帶一本notebook做journal,也可帶功課去做(因有家長concern小朋友沒有時間做功課),但會通知老師比多一個星期時間d小朋友交功課.

所以下年妳可以考慮下比小朋友去下SHIP Programme.去新加坡3星期,我個女都是一年班去,雖然見到佢好熱行半小時去國慶預演的會場,完左又揹住差唔多同佢一樣重的大袋放左幾支souvenior的水及好多souveniors,但好深刻!

我個女表面很平靜,但已開始pack野了.

咁...妳同新加坡開始有淵源了;好似我地咁,因我奶奶在新加坡出世,我個女當新加坡係佢鄉下,無耐之前先問幾時返去睇下. 如果妳細佬在個邊就更加容易話為,唔駛租3個星期的酒店,又可以叫佢地幫妳安排下d野...真好方便呀!

妳個女真叻,返了一年學就可以唱馬拉文校歌,仲d音好準,叻女!

Hi everyone,I'm new here,I'm so happy to see SIS
people on this site.I saw this banner at the corner of
the carpark down the road at the school.I called up to find out what they are,they said they have tutor
from S'pore teaches Maths and Science !
I'm going to visit their office next week to find out more because my boy needs tution for these two
subjects and I can not get a good tutor to help him so far.Anyone can give some advance ?

The SIS has just appointed a new principal, Ms Mak Lai Ying, reporting duty in Jan 2007. She is now the principal of Nanyang Girls' High School, which is one of the top schools in Singapore. I think the Singapore government has the determination of giving the needed support to the new SIS Secondary school in HK by seconding such an experienced teacher to SIS-HK. I fell that Ms Mak is a charming leader just looking at her picture.
