Has Chloe totally recovered yet ?  Even though she could not participate in the English assessment at school, I suggest you can still let her try to fill in the assessment sheet at home when returning back so that you can know more about her progress.

aiya, i miss the chance to see u and chloe~~  tiffany joined the same competition (both singing and piano playing) on 27/10 as well!!!!! can u describe chloe's dressing so that i can recall my memory?

tiffany is the one who played the song once, and then sat there and played again! i thought u should remember that case, right? tiffany also got the cert. of merit. i thought the judge was very fair and good, also gave great encouragement to the small kids, as u know, the age range of the kids joining this competition was really big.

i thought this kind of competition is also a very good chance for the kids to gain confidence and meet those she didn't know. it's a good practice before having interviews for primary schools.

tiffany joined the preliminary category (paino playing) of 第二屆全港學生公開比賽, so i think chloe has joined the same competition, right? tiffany wore a blue dress with white cardigan and there is a big pink butterfly on the cardigan. i just got a photo of part of the kids, but not all, so i can't recognize chloe ar~~

btw, i will join the coming competitions as well, so pls kindly let me know if there are more competitions ahead. i'd also like tiffany to participate in some speech competitions. hope that there is enough time to train her.

Hoi-ting has recently started ballet and piano classes.  Does anyone know where I can buy the ballet dress.  I heard that there are so many beautiful ones in Shamshuipo.  Any idea of the location of this type of shops ?  Besides, I am also considering buying a piano.  As she is just a beginner, any suggestion whether I should better buy/rent one first.  More importantly, what should I pay attention to if I really want a new one.  Grateful for your suggestion/view.

English Assessment

Yeah, agree ... there are so many to revise.

I have never learned phonics before, so now learning with St Cat CD.

Wanna to ask a question about the pronunciation of "a".  In the CD, it pronounces as "ar". So, apple, ambulance, arrow ... But I always pronounce the first part of these words as "air" instead of "ar".

Any clue?  Thanks!

For the "a" sound, my son pronounces it as the "a" in "act", same as what my daughter did when she studied in SC.

I haven't heard of the phonics CD over the years but know that someone would pronounce as "ar".  But in that way, the kids would have problem blending sounds like "apple", "cat", "Dad", etc.  A point to note is that it should not be pronounced as "air" coz it sounds like the letter "e" more.

That's my own experience and it doesn't represent what the teacher has taught.  So if you want to be sure, you'd better ask your own class NET.

I think I know which one is Tiffany, are you sitting on the left hand side (facing the stage)? I guess the 2nd row, on the aisle? If so, Tiffany was the one who always looked at us and I even smiled ...

Thanks for your comment.
In fact, both the CD and my daughter (who said teacher taught her) pronounces  "ar".
So it becomes strange to me to pronounce apple as "ar - pple", ambulance as "arm - bulance", etc.

Or "a" in front of a word can have 2 ways to pronounce?

Also, "c" is pronounced as "k". My daughter can understand this. But then how to differentiate words beginning with "c" and "k"?

Hi! See if I can answer your question.

1. If the grapheme is 'a' , the examples should be
a-c-t, c-a-t, a-n-t.

2. If the grapheme is 'ar', the examples should be
ar-m, s-t-ar-t, c-ar.

3. Both 'c' and 'k' have the same sound. Children can only define it by reading. I always believe that we have to apply the phonics skills into reading and writing(spelling). Phonics itself is meaningless.
