Internationally, in the hope finding the best "potential" medical students, a lot of medical schools use other specific standardized tests for initial medical School admission screening, like UKCAT, BMAT or MCAT. These are also regularly modified and validated. Interview also plays an extremely important part in giving out offers, and in fact the final IB or A level result are not the most determinant of successful admission, as even the most prestigious Uni would not ask for full/almost full mark on these exams.
Below is a quote from a paper about MCAT exam :
"...Medical school admission committees are seeking applicants who have strong natural science backgrounds, solid foundations for learning about the social and behavioral determinants of health, strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and appreciation for the cultural differences that patients bring with them into the examining room."
Glad to see that both local medical universities are also asking for results like UKCAT and BMAT, if available ( not sure whether they take into account of the results though). Hope our local Uni will move away from just basing on a "stellar" A level IB or DSE result.
