Dictation is probably the easiest part. It's in weekly or bi-weekly basis. Sometimes, they may have Chinese and English dictations in the same week. Dictations cover the whole unit passage, some shorter passages will need to be memorised. Later in P.1 will start to have unseen dictation as well. But again, dictation is really the easiest part.
The other parts of tests/exams are much more challenging, like comprehension. P.1 is probably still manageable, while P.2 this year is much more difficult. And worst of all, they have a lot of TSA exercises to do, and the TSA exercise level is even more difficult than the school's homework.
There's no doubt the new principal is pushing harder on academics. But I think the issue really is that HK EDB keeps raising the standards, so I guess schools are just trying to keep up to that level by simply asking kids to do more TSA exercises and raising the school standards as well. While the school encourages more reading and learning musical instruments, given the workload from homework and tests/exams, kids can hardly find time to really do so, as most of the time they are just homework/exercise machines.
I think some of the very smart kids are OK with it, but I guess many "average" kids are really struggling.
And I'm really not sure if it's a Raimondi only challenge or applicable to all famous local schools.
