Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi,

I could not access for BK in the past 2 morning. I've received the SMS from Nov Mama and I'm fine for both time & place. I will take Oliver with me.

I have not been to this restaurant, is it possible to order the table which is 靠边? cos' I won't bring the stroller and I need 2 additional chairs to place the baby. Thanks.

Little Wing,

Have u taken your daughter for injection? We had taken it couple weeks ago. That place is clean and the nurses are fine.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi, Joannek,

I will try to see whether the restaurant can accommodate all our requests.  How old is Oliver?  Do you think he can sit on baby chair?  Their baby chair is quite large and comfortable.  My daughter (who is 3 years old) can sit on the chair comfortably.  If the baby chair is OK to Oliver, then I will tell the restaurant to reserve one additional chair for Oliver.

Regarding the injection, I counter check with the local clinic in my area.  She said that the vaccine injection can only be taken for Children aged 3 and above.  As my daughter will be 3 by the end of March, she can take it right now.  Furthermore, the people of the clinic told me that there will be no 腦膜炎 vaccine injection after March 15, 2005 all over China since the 高峰期 has passed.  She asked me to arrange injection on coming November.

The people also checked my daughter's vaccine injection record in Hong Kong.  She said that it is an urgent to have 腦膜炎B vaccine injection for my daughter.  All children in China have that injection starting from age 1.   I am now asking my brother to check with the HK doctor to seek for his advice before having injection.  It seems quite complicated for my daughter's case.  On one hand, I do not trust China medical system and on the other hand, I have to ensure my daughter got sufficient protection if she lives in China.......

See all of you next Thursday.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Little Wing,

腦膜炎B vaccine = 日本腦膜。 They call it 乙腦 in here. If u stay in China for long term, it is better to take it. cos' they will take numbers of vaccines when they are in both primary and secondary...

If they do not let u to take A+C, then take it when u go to HK next time. You can take the A+C+W+Y at the same time with lower price...

See u next week.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Little Wing,

If we have 10-12 pax, why not request their private room?  It's easier for kids to play or walk around.  BTW, I don't think they are that busy during weekday lunch.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Critic,

I am not quite sure whether they have priviate room or not.  Let me check out and also see if they have minimum charges if we reserve the private room (if they have).

Joannek,

Oh....  腦膜炎B vaccine = 日本腦膜.  Thanks for letting me know.

For the A+C+W+Y, I think most of the clinic will not keep the stock for this injection.  Do you know where I can have the injection for my daughter if we decide to take it when we go back to HK in Summer Holiday?

Thanks.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Dear all,

Long time no chat la!!! My husband is very busy recently, so I have to look after my baby and have no time to type any messages here until now, I miss you all very much!!!!

Does anyone know if it's quite easy to get infected with 日本腦膜 in SH??? My baby is now attending a playgroup in HK, and also I have applied the pre-nursery of Victoria for him as backup already, but I am still struggling whether SH is suitable for my baby or not, I feel a little bit frustrated!!!

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

I think your husband's employer should have a standard HR policies on Compensation and Benefits for all Hong Kogn Transferees, right?  If they don't have, depending on your husband's bargaining power, you may need to consider:-

(1)  Accommodation (fully reimbursed or housing allowance)
(2)  Local Travelling allowance or company car provided
(3)  No. of Home Leave Tickets (SH/HK/SH) per family members per year
(4)  Extra home leave holiday
(5)  Tax Issue (China Individual Income Tax is much higher than Hong Kong Salaries tax. Your husband has to talk with his employer on the tax arrangement.)
(6)  Medical (coverage for whole family)
(7)  Education Allowance for international school (fully reimbursed or with maximum pay per year)

In previous years, some employers also offer hardship allowance to those HK transferees.  But most of the companies will not do that as nowadays working in China (especially SH, BJ) are not hardship at all.

Hope you find the above info. sufficient.

Regards,

Little Wing

Littlewing & other Shanghai mama:

I am new here but have been reading all the previous messages about living in Shanghai.  I am going to relocate to Shanghai and bring my daughter to study in Shanghai starting from Sep 05.

May I ask for your opinion about the kindergarten?  I basically want my girl (4 years old) to study mandarin & english and enjoy her school life (but not too expensive).   I am thinking about Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten, Fortune kindergarten and Omega kindergarten in Hongqiao area, and we will be in Shanghai next week to have a site visit.  Do you have any recommendations about kindergarten near Jinan / Hongqiao area?

Thanks.

Re: Shanghai Mommies Club

Hi, Salt,

Frankly Speaking, I am not an expert in this area and I didn't spend time in searching school for my kid.  I felt sorry about that.  I have been living here since last Oct.  SH is still not very familiar and everyday I have to learn how to live in SH.

For your concern, you can read the topic of "International School in SH" previously discussed among the SH mommies.  Critic has already gave her concrete sharing on kintergarden.  See whether her information can help you in searching school.

Where will you live?  Hongqiao or Jinan?  When choosing school, you also need to consider about location.  For myself, my husband insists to send my daughter to the kintergarden nearby our apartment (just 10 min. to walk from our apartment to school) as he doesn't want our daugther to wake up so early and spend time on travelling.  My daughter is just 3 years old.......................

May be other mommies can give you input on your concern.
