Can anyone shares why pick the internationl school ?

In my opinion, if point 2(Government Policy) is your concern and $$$ is not your concern, IS is more confident to have a happy life.
Although someone will say that local schools still have a lot of good students, sorry, it cannot contribute their achievement to the Educational System : they deserve to be good students only because of their talents.
As long as students are going through the route to HKCE/HKALE /local Us(going to reform again...combine into one exam...), no one can get rid of experiencing such riot and pressure, No matter you are studying in Chinese / English local schools.
Anyway, if you think your boy is smart enough to take the challenges and you do proud of being a top local school parents, why not DBS?
I believe you have already had your decision in your mind.

Making correct and wrong decisions are major components of LIFE but the worst scenario is avoiding making decision. Only God knows whether a decision is correct or wrong when you've just made it.
Just give your husband  a call and tell him your decision in your mind. I believe he will (can only) fully support your decision and both of you are responsible to the result. Good Luck!

Although my wise worries the Chinese standard, I still prefer the IS "Education". I believe, Schooling is not only the entry ticket to the Top University / Career.

The local school are sometime too emphasis on the exam result, it become the indicator of the school performance. But, of course, there are some local school which is exceptionally good and do care the children and their development.
Hope you can find one.

You or your wife are worried about children's Chinese standard. That's why some ISs with stronger emphasis on Chinese Language are well received by parents. You may consider them.

ESF admits students on a non-selective basis. That is, an interview is offered when a place is available. The criterion is the kid's English fluency only.

Thus, the ways to get in ESF are: 1)  getting an interview; 2) adequate fluency in English.

For the former, admisssion to grade 1 is relatively easier than that to others, since a number of places are offered. For other grades, there are always  waiting lists. Priority is given to native speakers. Whenever expatriates arrive, they can "jump the queue" to get an interview. Thus, the chance for a local child to have an interview can be very low.

For the latter, it is not easy for a local child to speak English identical with or near to a native speaker. That is, the chance to meet the requirement of English fluency can be slim.      
     
Parents of local families with chidren studying in ESF schools may tell us how they can jump over the    above said hurdles to admit their children.
