My daughter is studying there.  Quite a good school, there are 1/3 are non-Chinese.  My daughter is quite proud of her school.  She always says that her school is sort of international school.  Her English has progressed a lot.  But also because of many non-Chinese, English is above average, but Maths in reverse.

想知道YMCA是不參加派位的, 那我如果已報讀一條龍中學的話, 還可考YMCA, 考到後再轉校嗎? 因為報一條龍我已不能參加派位, 但不知直資中學是否會接受我報名呢?

另你介唔介意講講你小朋友小五小六時的中英數成績的grading呢? many thanks! 她對英文教授的科目的適應如何? 是否需要不停查字典, 做功課溫書至很夜.....等等?

My daughter belonged to band 1 尾 when she was primary 6, only she was sent to her 7th choice , so we switched her to YMCA Christian college for F.1.(It was the first year of YMCA)  She was good in Chinese, English, but not so good in Maths (Just 75-80 marks IN P.6)

In F.1 - F.2, I was quite worry about her English, because I never saw her checking her dictionary. Not so many homeworks as well.  But since F.3, she loves Eng.Lit a lot. (I think the Eng.Lit teachers there are very inspiring).  Now she spent most of her time in writing Eng.Lit essay, But still I never see her checking dictionary, maybe she checks the vocabularies in the computer.  She doesn't need to finish her homework very late, maybe 10:00 pm maximum.


YMCA doesn't join the 統一派位，so you accept the seat offer by YMCA, then, you need to quit the 統一派位。

Do you know if the teaching approach of YMCA is interactive or just like traditional schools?
Does your daughter like her teachers and enjoy attending the classes?  Is the studying atmosphere good or not?

Is their homework workload heavy?  

I have seen some local Chinese students there in last open day and seems that they were very shy and were not confident to speak out.  On the other hand, some western kids were more friendly and happy.  Just wonder if the 2 very different groups of students can mingle and work together?

She loves the school and loves most of the teachers, but of course as happen in all the schools, there are still some teachers whose teaching way is quite boring.  But I accept it as this is part of the reality. Basically the teachers are using quite interactive way of teaching.  but some of them will be more successful and some are not.

I know that most of the students are given chance to read some sentence in the Bible, or share their experience in the assembly.  But still some students, because of their characters, may still be shy.  

Every form has 4 classes, Y is mainly for ones who are good in English, so more native English speaking students will be in this class.  M is for the students who are Best for all subjects.  Both these two classes are evenly mingled between native English speakers and the local Chinese, the % is obviously more for this year F.1.  

"C" and "A" classes are not so good classes.But still there are some non-Chinese in those classes, so there are a lot of chance for both to mingle together.

To be frankly, I don't see my daughter spent a lot of time in her homework previously, that I worried so much about it. But this year F.4,  whenever I go back home from work, I am pleased to see her doing her homework.  It may be because she becomes more initiative or because of more homework.  But as long as she is working on her homework, I am happy with it.

Thanks a lot for your info.  I will visit the school again on its coming open day in November.  I believe it is a good school, only that its location is too far for many people.  And, the students of the secondary school Caritas next to YMCA are quite scary!

One more thing, do you know how is the standard of Mandarin in YMCA?  Are they teaching Chinese in Mandarin?  Thanks.

Before, most of the YMCA parents including me, worried about too close with the Caritas next door.  But it seems that my daughter and her classmates also scared of getting too close with them.  Therefore, YMCA has different bell time than Caritas, in order to avoid same time getting in or out the school. By the way, all YMCA students are not allowed to go out for lunch, so there is not much chance they can be together.

Therefore, I am not worry now.  If your kids don't like the style of Caritas students, they have their own judgement not to get along with Caritas.

Chinese is not taught in Mandarin, only 普通話 is taught in Mandarin.  I think YMCA is good in English, but not quite in Mandarin.

My daughter is F1, she need teaches Mandarin both Chinese and 普通話。She is very enjoy her school life。 We live in Mongkok , she takes MTR about 25 minutes to Tung Chung and changes bus 37 or 38P 。

Glad to hear that students in F.1 are taught in Mandarin for Chinese subjects.  My daughter is in F.4, she doesn't take Mandarin this year (this subject is optional for Art stream), so I have no idea.  Thanks a lot for your advice.

By the way, which class is your daughter in ?

        She is only Class C. On school meeting(14/10), her teacher said her class overall is good in this year.
She makes friend wtih her classmates, she also joins badminton team, flute and home E.
其實，如果能在愉快中學習不是一件可喜的事嗎？
       我有一個經驗希望在此分享。小女在小一至小回上都是在全級名次二十名內，即是在banding 1，更編入精英班，之後惡夢開始。英文老師(英文主任)是個很嚴厲的人，只曾對成績佳的學生好(特別在英文科)，上堂時學生不可以說話，小女 P5 不小心把鉛筆掉在地上也要寫手冊(不專心，家長簽名)。當我看到手冊後，我很緊張並責駡一頓，一次又一次的簽有冊，英文成績一落千丈由89降至70(程分)，當時我倆關很差，當時我主動要見英文老師(小一至小四從沒有發生過)，得到的回應就是沒有什麼，只是上堂愛說話。另一問題又出現了，面部及頸部更出了顯疹。升上P6 同一英文老師，我與小女說千萬不要在她的課堂說話，不要把手冊寫花，因為中學面試時要用，由其要入EMI。 反而她的班主任很好，時常鼓勵她，教她做人道理，三科均有進步。因為她對我說要讀EMI，所以我便開始注要一些直資中學YMCA、中華基金(柴灣)、St.Margaret(深水埗)、St.Margaret(中區女子)。最後我與小女入表YMCA，並得bk黃o禁o禁的分享，更在自行派位(one click pass)，在四月已經簽了放棄派位。
      在暑假前她一直看中醫吃中樂， 直至 升讀YMCA已經三個月，佢o的濕疹好了。在這處我首先多謝黃o禁o禁，我沒有揀錯YMCA。小女愛上所有科目除art，因為顏料會引發濕疹。

你的經驗，我是深有同感！我與小女關系最差亦是小五及小六。同期，她的成績亦由全班考第三至十一。她愈退步我亦愈緊張，需然她仍是 band 1，但母女關系真的很傷。反而她入讀YMCA後，我開始放手。開始的時候都是很擔心的，但慢慢開始見她對自已有要求，我想是老師對她的影響開始發揮。所以我是很滿意 YMCA，尤其她現在很熱愛英國文學，我是以前怎樣逼也逼不出來的。另外我是看著YMCA一年比一年進步。學生的質素亦不斷提高。所以你說 "c" class is overall good 是不容置疑的！小女在YMCA這幾年有很大的進步，包括待人處事及對學業之積極性，我是很欣慰的！希望你女兒亦愈來愈喜愛 YMCA，共勉之！

想問下YMCA真係咁好呀, 我知道程度就真係唔差, 但係我住青衣既朋友講, 成日見到港青既學生同街食煙, 態度都唔好, 請問校風係咪比成績無咁好呀?

每間學校都有不良份子，就算 Queen's college 都有學生打劫中醫啦。尤其 YMCA只開了3年，第一年當然甚麼質素的學生都收啦！所以我說學生方面是一年比一年進步，因為開始有口啤嗎！今年的F.1生好像要品行方面有 B grade才收的。我女兒以前都看不過眼，在她F.1及 F.2都對我說有這些不良份子，但去年她說已經少了很多，今年都沒有聽她提起。況且，她都有自已的 judgement，她所有好同學都是較為喜歡讀書的，所以那些不良份子她是不上心的。我想你朋友看見的都是比較高年班的。

還有去評價一間是否好學校，都要看看校長及老師們的投入及關注學生程度，我所接觸的都是很好的，很為學生着想的。女兒亦很享受學校生活。既然是這樣，那我當然很願意為它說句公道話。
