我有個朋友是 St. Mary old girl, 佢9月會選小一，但佢想幫個女選Maryknoll, 我就覺得佢好痴線，你們有何看法呢 ?
  

p.s 佢有20分在手 (唔計old girl 分), 但不是住41區。

其實佢有20分在手,揀任何一間天主教學校都好大機會,只不過佢就一定入梗 St. Mary.
即係佢想博一博啦!
佢係唔係諗住就算派唔到都可靠3rd round呀?

佢應該係計埋 religious mark, total got 20 marks.
That means, for St. Mary, she got 25 marks.
for Maryknoww, she got 20 marks.
She hope to get a seat in the 1st round.

其實我都唔係好清楚 1st, 2nd and 3rd round 係 D 乜，有無家長可以話我知呢

20 marks may not be successful for Maryknoll, especially for the 2000 kids.

So if she loses MCS in the 1st round, she cannot get a place in St. Mary as well.  So may end up with nothing good.

old girls only added marks in the first round, the third round will be the lucky draw no relation to religious and parents' background.

現在SMCS每級只有四班，每班約三十餘人，第三輪機會好渺茫。

最有可能便是她喜歡Maryknoll多過St Mary's，有何不妥？兩所學校的風格不同，她喜歡Maryknoll多些，不喜St Mary's，也十分合理。

I would not take this risk.  St. Mary's is as good as Maryknoll.  St. Marians are more subtle.  
MCS's academic result may be slightly better than St. Mary's, but St. Marians are not as money-minded.

無謂冒險, st. mary 都好好.  有好多多媽咪都好想女兒能入呢間學校.  點解仲要去博呢? maryknoll 20分真係好難抽到.

I agree that Maryknoll is indeed better than St Mary based on academic result+ECA and I understand why old St Marians would like to send their girls to Maryknoll instead (St Mary has much less interschool activities than other elite schools, which I think this is very important as well), but in this world of 'lucky draw' education, with 25 marks of being an old St Marian I think she should go for St Mary to secure a place. If she cannot get into Maryknoll, then how? St Mary is quite a good school as well.

As I personally know many graduates from elite schools  like DGS, Maryknoll, St Mary, I do not think that Maryknoll is particularly money-minded than the rest, I think this is only the impression people get from those actresses and singers, which also happened to DGS, St Mary and other schools too. Most of these elite schools students  are hard-working and capable of 'climbing the ladder' in their career, but surely that doesn't mean that they are money-minded??

Students studying in Maryknoll tend to show off their family wealth.  Some poorer students' parents may find it hard to keep up with the Joneses.

I joined a Korean trip several years ago and met a girl studying in Maryknoll primary.  Although I barely know her, she kept telling me that she'd been to Canada, Japan, Singapore...... Of course she also showed me all her expensive clothings and accessories that her mother bought her.  Maybe this was only a one-off, but that really gave me a very bad impression of the school.

St. Marians that i know are more down-to-earth.  But Maryknoll has better academic results.
