make it a habit to visit the library or the bookstore, and let him explore and tour around and see what he is interested in, and just let him enjoys the process of reading. let me choose,  may it be chinese poems, may it be about airplanes, trains, almanac, superheros or even joke books. Just let them have a choice and enjoy reading. Anything from the library or bookstore should be fine...one of my friend's daughter just enjoy reading cookbooks, but u will be amazed too how much chinese and english words she picked up too...!!

It depends on how many words your girls can understand ( when u read to her).
If you seldom read to her, better start with stage 1. I knew there are some ORT which do not have words and someone think this give them more freedom how to tell a story. Eg "the lost teddy", "the apple".
If one page has more than 3 words that she does not know, it may be difficult for her to understand.

i think that it is important to give the kid a good environment to read.  For example, no TV or computer/phone garmes but reading during leisure time inlcuding yourself.  It is important for parents to set some good examples for their kids.

上述的方法都是好方法, 帶小朋友去圖書館呀, 找些他可能感興趣的書籍, 但我認為有一個很重要的元素, 樓主或者看漏眼, 就是自己對看書的態度.

我深信孩子很受父母影響, 而且, 模仿力很強, 我明白在職父母很少時間在家, 但一有時間, 請在他面前看書, 只是看書, 那就是說, 關電視, 不上網, 一味看書, 這個影像的效果, 看在他眼中, 對不起, 恕我不能量化, 但應該甚有impact, 最好是父母都靜靜一起看.

專家話家中藏有大量書本 (過100本)也有幫助（去lib借返來都得架）。要使看書成為他的樂，就要以孩子的興趣為中心。外在獎賞計劃不要太多，要培養內在動力…。

不如先從佢喜歡的卡通人物故事書先開始入手，再慢慢培養興趣，轉唔同類型的書。好似有好多卡通電影都有出書，反斗車王又有。

我囡與你家小孩情況相似。

英文書我是從OUP-Tick Tock Series開始，分3 levels, 每個level有16本書，簡單易讀，完成後才開始ORT、Oxford Storyland Readers。

中文書以繪本為先，後開始讀青田的愉快閱讀糸列及彩虹系列。
