找學校

我們剛從加拿大回流香港， 目前住在九龍西，須要為孩子
找小學。請問各位有哪間小學可以做到：

1. 小孩子們都能愉快地學習
2. 大部分的學生能夠在八歲時看Harry Potter （美加的小孩子一般都能夠在七，八歲時看Harry Potter）
3. 大部分的學生能夠在十二，三歲時看金庸的小說

基本上，我們想孩子在香港多學點中文，所以首先還是考慮本地學校。

八歲時看Harry Potter ?我是一位中學老師，教的是區內中上中學，但看英文書對這些學生來說是‘一大慘事’，我校中二程度的英文課當故事書只是九龍塘英文名小學的小四課外書！
我相信如果不選國校學校，或者這些英文名小學才可達到你的要求。但當然，看課外書到要得到家長鼓勵支持時，便可事半功倍。
九龍西：不如試試考保良局蔡繼有學校 崇真小學和保良局陳守仁小學 ，這兩所都是以英語為授課英語的學校

至於‘能夠在十二，三歲時看金庸的小說’相信這是是符學生對金庸的小說的興趣有多大。

小孩子們都能愉快地學習--每間學校都是好老師興壞老師，愉快地學習很難有定義，因每人對‘愉快地學習’的定義都不同，有活躍學生喜歡活動教學，都有文靜學生適合傳統。所以，要選一所適合孩子的學校時，可根據他們的興趣吧！
對表演有興趣：如大埔道崇真小學有校園電視台，界限行啟基學校很注重學生表演
對語言有興趣：保良局陳守仁小學學校有法文

I do not want to create a controversy but I have some doubts whether this thread is serious (or is not a piss-taker).

It is somewhat unrealistic to compare US/Canadian schools (and what kids can achieve in those schools) with HK local schools.  For a start, kids in those schools usually have English as their mother tongue.  They may be able to read Harry Potter even at the age of 5, but no one can read Louis Cha!  

Schools which create a happy atmosphere for their students tend NOT to be schools which push their students academically.  Of course you can send your kids to a local happy school and then "push" your kids yourself academically (such as encourage him/her to read widely during his/her spare time), but then that has nothing to do with the school anyway.  

I apologise in advance if I have been too harsh on the author of the thread, but he/she has not even told us whether his/her kid is a boy or a girl!

2&3.我最多以此作為對自已孩子的期望，亦吾會set到條線咁死(8歲/12-3歲)，我絕對覺得每個孩子都有可能，首要係父母有好好培養，但這絕對吾會係我選校標準。

I think all parents would want their kids to be fluent in both languages but given the standard of an average local school, it would be quite unrealistic to expect a 7-8 year old to  be able to understand the book version of Harry Potter. I was educated overseas and I had to look up a few words in the dictionary when I read them. The other consideration is whether the kid can read or write Chinese. If he/she can't, it would be difficult for him/her to get into a local school, not even CKY.

8歲的小孩能夠看得懂Harry Potter，在網上我的確遇見過這樣"標青"的女孩。 但我覺得那並非因為她就讀哪一所學校的原故，而是我看見女孩的背後那個本身就博覽群書，酷愛閱讀，肯花很多時間伴讀，花很多心機提高女兒閱讀興趣的母親。

當然我承認學校本身如果閱讀風氣濃厚的話對小朋友是有一定的推動作用，但我想家庭自少薰陶效果可能更好。

You are telling something what I want to say but I dare not say.

I do find that the happy learning environment not just come from school but also the attitude of parent. If the parent always takes the unreasonable and unattainable expectiation towards the kids, it will only create a harsh and failure learning environment.

My son actually is reading now (only seven) up to book 3. But whether he understand or not, I didn't ask. I don't think reading friction should understand every vocabulary. Does he come from Mars?

請問各位，為何堅持要小朋友有閱讀習慣? 閱讀有甚麼好? 對甚麼有幫助？ 為何常問哪些書適合那年紀的小朋友？ 看書的目的是甚麼？ 還是看書應不應有目的？請不要給我一些似是而非的大道理，請深思！

這是一間奇怪的學校，往年可在午飯時探訪，對他們的同學及家長可以有很多接觸的機會。今年取消了。大部份情況都是由兒子轉述：

不是二、三個人，但又不是大部份人。這是一間很"雜"的學校。學生來自五湖四海。我眼見的，大部份都很醒。小朋友喜模仿，又愛比較，我兒舊年班中有一個讀書會，專負責到圖書館借書，年尾他班贏了那個借書獎。有人帶Harry Potter 在校中讀，他便拿我的書讀埋一份。(冇辦法，家中唯二的書架放在他房，我的書寄人籬下，慘遭ソミ)。

學校的情況很難說，有不停閱讀的學生，亦有連每日一篇都不上的，要看看你的孩子群不群埋一起，可能物以類聚，亦可能傾唔埋冷。

說不懂，又未必。我最近看Da Vinci code，他拿起看了一分鐘，然後伸伸利走了，並說:咪搞！

可以很愉快，但努力經營的亦不小，視乎自己。

don't you all find this rather interesting.  The initiator of this thread has managed to create some heated debate among us and he or she has not even told us whether his or her kid is a boy or a girl.   How do we begin to recommend schools to him or her if we do not know that (unless he or she is limiting his or her choice to co-ed schools).

First of all, thank you for all those who have given me constructive suggestions regarding the '找學校' post.

To me, it is very easy to achieve the first two criteria
by taking my son to an international school, such as ESF schools. They don't have much homework and encourage students to read a lot of books.

What really frustrating me is actually the Chinese language. To read 金庸, one have to know about 3,000 chinese characters. The local primary school chinese syllabus covers some 2,800 chinese characters at P.6 according to 莊澤義：《香港小學課本用字規範》。

My dream school is actually an ESF style school plus Chinese training as intensive as what a local primary school does.

I've asked many friends of mine for the same question. Nobody can find one so far.

by taking my son to an international school, such as ESF schools."-----好多人都知。但閣下要"首先還是考慮本地學校"及以"大部份學生做到"為標準，仲要1+2+3丫麻。還在意識少200個中文字就吾可以睇金庸！李國章都揾吾到比你啦，何況friend？不如一早食左套Harry Potter and 金庸，博個仔一出世就識仲實際la！ 好難認同這個選校標準，不過都有個建議----弘立，新就新D，最大機會係呢間架la，打去問下記得問埋學費幾錢！ (算係咁la 瓜)
