我個女今年入Year 1，我想問吓係咪要買學校果個書包? 同埋如果想係學校食 lunch 係點? 佢得五歲坐 school　ｂｕｓ怕唔怕？

I'm a also a new parent of RC. My boy will join the Y1 in coming August.

For the school bag, I don't think that it necessary to buy the RCHK product. I saw different kinds of school bags on the floors of the lower grades during my school visit in last November.

I'll let my boy take the RCHK school bus. He has been taking school buses since he started k1. I trust the school bus more than other private service providers or my helper's escort, especially during wet weather.

You are free to choose any kind of school bag for your daughter.  Some teachers, however, may set out special requirements.  My son's class teacher had specifically advised parents NOT to get school bags with wheels for their children.

<想係學校食 lunch 係點?>
Your child will bring home a lunch order form each month.  All you need to do is to fill out the form and submit it together with a cheque before the deadline. You may order for the whole month or select specific days according to the menu.  The order form and the monthly menu is also available on the school website.

<佢得五歲坐 school bus怕唔怕？>
Don't think this should be a problem at all as a lot of children in Hong Kong have been taking school buses since nursery.

小學部最大的 exercise book 係 A4 size，
你預大少少，放得落就得，
唔建議買有 wheels 的。

其實,開學仲有咩準備呢?例如,幾時買學校個套文具.又幾時買label呢?還有,係唔係要放一套後備校服在學校呀?請多多指教

文具同label 都可以唔駛買!

開學後老師就會話比家長知，要比約 $200+ 買一套文具，有鉛筆，顏色筆，glue ，畫簿等等，係放在學校用，每個年級價錢唔同。這是今年的做法，我唔知下年會唔會有變；而且，唔知係唔係小一唔駛買呢？

你講的，係乜野 label？
老師係會叫家長 label 衣物文具，不過點樣 label，用乜野 label，都係家長自己決定。衣服我只係用 marker pen 寫名，文具我部份用 label，部份都係自己 print 名字落白紙，再用膠紙貼。
全部衣物個人用品 ( 如 lunch box，water bottle ，school bag等 )，最好係開學前 label 晒。
學校分發的那套文具，小朋友第一個星期就會一大包拿回家，家長就要當晚 label 好，比小朋友下一日帶會學校，如果想買/定 label，現在都可以。

小一好似係要放一套校服在學校，不過情形係點，我唔清楚。

還要買乜？

(1) 在家中用的文具。我 d 小朋友一向冇話特別開學前要點 "入貨"，我覺得反而開學後，睇下需要乜野先買。反正屋企應該有齊基本文具，唔會話冇筆用。
(2) water bottle 一個。其實學校有水機，唔帶都得，又或者可以用住以往用開的，唔一定要買新的。
(3) lunch box 。如果自己 pack lunch，就要買喇，記住 lunch 要返學時帶，家長唔可以中途送回學校。
(4) 書包。總之放得落 A4 size exercise book 就得。其實，小學都唔會太多野帶，唔駛買太 "重量級" 的，輕巧的 backpack 最好，唔好買有 wheels 的，因為小朋友要行樓梯。
(5) 返學鞋 + 運動鞋。話就話學校規定著黑或啡色皮鞋，(有運動堂的那天可以著運動服 + 運動鞋 ) 但係好多人都係一對運動鞋，著足五日。我就幫孩子買深色的運動鞋，可以日日著，慳錢係其一，如果小朋友好動，中意走走跳跳玩籃球，著運動鞋舒服 d。其實只要運動鞋唔係太鮮艷的顏色 ( 如紅紅綠綠 )，買深色系的，學校都唔會話執得太嚴。

我建議唔好買埋買埋好多新野，等開學後，睇下有邊 d 真係需要新的先買。我知家長都好 tempted ，想新學年買新野比小朋友返學用，尤其小朋友升讀小學，咁我覺得可以先買新書包，新鞋，其他可以先用舊的也 ok 喇。

暫時諗到係咁多，或者等其他家長補充。

(好多人都去了旅行，比少少耐性等回覆。)

我一路都好疑惑要買幾大個書包比我仔返學,
而家有你advice, 我會易d選購.

還有, 對返學鞋, 一對波鞋著足5天, 小朋友著得舒服之餘
家長亦慳返好多.

ESF & RC's admission counts the year the children were born, not the age directly.
year 1 of 2009/10 is for children born in 2004, regardless of the children's birthday within the year.

1.  Can you share with me, whether your child likes the school lunch or not ? I am quite worry about letting my daughter to take care her own lunch. She used to be fed.... ((((sigh))))).
2.   I hv submitted the application, but then wondering whether i should let her go straight to Year 2 instead. Is the chance high to join Year 2 ?
3. How many students are there in one class ?

esf & RC 的比較
1) 學費:
ESF - 有政府資助, 小學學費為 $58.1 K/year
RC - 冇政府資助. 叫做 private independent school. 小學學費 $68.4K/year.

No debenture for both ESF & RC.

2) 收生
(a) zone restriction
ESF -  每間學校照顧所屬地區的學童
RC - 全香港

(b) admission priority
ESF - Category 1 priority: non-chinese; Category 2 priority:  學生的兄弟姊妹, 英基幼稚園學生, 父母為英基職員/畢業生 等等, , etc. 詳情請參考 www.esf.edu.hk

RC - 基本上冇 'priority', 但係由於 ESF 主要收 non-chinese, 變成 RC 就收好多冇 ESF admission priority 的小朋友.... 即係收好多Chinese (在 local 幼稚園讀的學生).

(c) Chinese Language
ESF - 簡體字
RC - 繁體字. (not sure if this applies for non-chinese students).

My son tried the school lunch for one day only. He doesn't like the food (but I think the food is delicious as I tried some snacks at the cafeteria before.) My son then packs his own lunch to school.

No need to worry about how the children handle their lunch. The teachers help the children settle down and get used to the routine. They can do things out of our expectation.

I think there're still chances for a vacancy in year 2 in next school yr. Just wait & see.

for year 1, the class size is 28.

我仔in year 1 時,
5個小朋友一齊入去.
我仔話老師同佢地講故事,
另外, 老師問佢 shapes, colors,
叫佢畫圖畫, 唱歌仔.

成個interview around 30 mins.
我見d小朋友係笑住出黎.
