My kid is in P4 in a local dss. We plan to apply for esf for him. But he was born in December, he went to local school one year later as a big boy. As esf admission is based on birth year, he will be forced to jump to G7 in the year 2022-2023 if he is so fortunate to be admitted.

Grade 4 to grade 7... Challenge very great.
Could any parents with experience shed on light on it?

Since he is in P4 now, that's equivalent to G5 in Esf, and should be in G6 next year. So even if it's jumping one grade to G7, it's not actually a very big jump. G7 is the first year of secondary in ESF, I am sure the school would give him and all other student enough support for the transition.

Thank you for your reply. His English and Math should be fine. What we are most worried is his mental maturity and too small compared with peers.

Since your child is the oldest in LS now and he will become one of the younger ones in ESF. But since all the kids in Y7 are born in 2011, so they are the same age. No need to worry.

You may give a call to the admission office and discuss with them. The year of birth is not the only criteria of admission.

Actually there’re also big kids in esf schools. I know someone is 13 months older than my boy in the same year level.

有聽過 ESF內的 PIS收生並非一定要跟出生年份

Hahaha ..same case with my boy..he is suppose to be P4 and now he is in ESF Y6 now..so far he is okay but I can share more with you tomorrow after parents talk with the teacher :)
