I wouldn't say it's a must but it certainly has an advantage to learn a musical instrument for the sake of applying secondary school / enjoy music/ relax/ join the Music Festival.........

But my son of P3 needs to be examined by using one musical instrucment. Does it imply a "must"?

If no musical instrument is learnt, a student can play the recorder instead. Even piano doesn't count, my girl's classmate still played it in the music exam. That's why I said is not necessarily a must but is an advantage to learn it.
