It really depends on their talent, interest and willingness to practise.
It may also be necessary to designate one instrument as the primary instrument (according to his/her talent and interest), the other is the 2nd instrument.
My boy is quite talented but lazy. He just practises 3 days a week for 1 instrument, and another 3 days for the other, at most 30 minutes a day. When clash with school test and other more important activities, you need to decide which one to practise more in the week (e.g. maintain 3 days for the week and the other just let go). You need to plan well for the exam (e.g. May for 1 instrument, and Nov for the other) if both teachers said he is ready for exam. You may be very busy during music festival.
Since practise time is limited, parent's involvement is more important. Kids tend to practise a whole piece from the beginning to the end, and then again and again. Parents need to listen and find out which part or bars which he has trouble and concentrate to practise that part. This is my little tips. |
