Finally "track record" is available for some new IS in Hong Kong. Many congratulations to the first cohort of Malvern students for their impressive IB results. Will definitely help their recruitment next year.

"Malvern College Hong Kong IB Results Announcement

Malvern College Hong Kong's first cohort of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme students achieved outstanding results. An impressive 50% scored 40 points or higher, with highest individual score of 44 points out of 45. The overall average score was 39.4 points, well above the world average of 30.24 points.  

Additionally, 50% of students earned the Bilingual Diploma, while the average grade across all subjects was 6.14, markedly higher than the 2022 world average of 4.97. These academic triumphs were matched by excellence in the core components of Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge with students achieving an average of 2.5 out of 3 for the core points, significantly above the world average of 1.53 in 2022. 100% of students also scored 2 or more points, and 78% earned an A or B for their ToK and EE components.

The class of 2023 has applied to programs across 12 countries and regions, with over 3.1 million Hong Kong dollars in scholarships as of June 3, with more expected after IB results.  Business was the most popular course chosen, followed by social sciences, medicine, law, and sciences. Notable university offers include:   
• The prestigious World Bachelor in Business (WBB) programme (admit rate <5%), co-hosted by, University of Southern California, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Bocconi University
• Imperial College London
• Medicine at The University of Hong Kong
• Claremont McKenna College   
• Chinese University of Hong Kong (BBA & JD)     
• University of St Andrews     
• University of Edinburgh
• University of Warwick   
• University of Toronto   
• University of British Columbia         
• Medicine at Brunel University London
• University of California Davis     

Overall, 85%+ of students were admitted to their top-choice programme/university.

There are less than 1% of schools in the US that teaches IB. A long long way from replacing SAT or ACT or AP programmes...

Maybe it's due to its 70% local composition so in reality there are not many French/Spanish mother tongues who would take languages other than Chinese?

我見Y7-11(MYP)只有中文和英文，無其他選擇⋯

DP嘅話，應該多數選中文，除非自修（我諗係母語，例如法國人考法文）或西班牙文ab initio.
其實佢冇3rd language係冇咁吸引的⋯

And, as mentioned before, schools still encourage you to take the SAT at least once as long as your circumstances permit you to do so."

STC 大學counselor 應該會提供選科建議，一般先睇大學心儀學科要求選定 dp high level subjects, 如果你目標係大學熱門科目，一分也不能少，選科更要小心步處。考美國大學又唔止睇分數，除了選兩科language A, 亦有人會選4科 high level subjects,  包括中文B HL, 又係show challenge自己，但要學校同意選4科HL

個人覺得未必有顯著幫助；但你的畢竟在local school讀中文多年，語感會比同學佳，唸IB Chin A可能不錯；反而French or Spanish要取6 或7分，一點不易。

我的孩子將從local school入讀STC但仍然對中文沒信心，想選法文(從未學過），指教各位應該如何處理？謝謝

Understood, so it is difficult to tell how students get the bilingual diploma unless it is specified by the schools.
Both routes are now shown in CKY's prospectus (http://cky.edu.hk/wp-content/upl ... k-2023-24-entry.pdf).  This is different from my previous understanding.


"Bilingual Diploma at CKY

Students may opt to take two Group 1 languages, English and Chinese, if they are proficientenough in both languages; subsequently this means that they do not need to take a furtherlanguage from the Group 2 languages. If they choose to take two Group 1 courses, they will beawarded a bilingual diploma. Similarly, students can be awarded a bilingual diploma if theystudy another Group 3 or Group 4 subject in a language other than that studied in Group 1."
When a school shows 100% bilingual diploma, parents may ask "how" to get a better understanding.

我記得呢區多年前討論過真道，IB成績高，又100% bilingual diploma，大家覺得好叻。之後先知佢哋全部學生係中文A加英文B，優才等其它本地學校可能都類似。

在RC & SC都係這情況；兩間學校都只提供Eng A, 因此要達到bilingual diploma, 就只能修Chi A。

NAISHK Class of 2023 IBDP results

07 JULY 2023

Our third Diploma Programme cohort from NAISHK achieved an impressive 100% Diploma pass rate which compares very favourably to the global picture of 79%.  This is especially remarkable considering we are a non-selective school.

40% of our students were awarded the Bilingual Diploma for completing the full programme in a language other than their mother tongue. We are so very proud of this achievement.

Principal, Mr Duncan, praised the hard work of both students and teachers in achieving these examination outcomes adding: “I am delighted that our students once again achieved a 100% pass rate and are enjoying such a high measure of individual success despite the significant challenges they have faced throughout both their IGCSE and IBDP studies, challenges which significantly disrupted the normal flow of school life.

Results globally are significantly down on previous years as the examining body, IBO, attempts to re-align the exam outcomes with pre-Covid times.  The global debate about results should not detract from the incredible efforts of students to learn and teachers to teach. Students have worked hard during an extremely difficult time in their secondary education – and we should focus on celebrating their achievements. 40% of examinations were awarded a Level 6 or 7, which is the equivalent to an A or A* at Advanced Level. 10% of our students achieved a world class score of 40 points or above (the equivalent of 4 A* grades), while 30% achieved 35 points or above – the equivalent of three A* grades at Advanced Level. 

We are incredibly proud of all our IB pupils and I would like to congratulate each one of them on their impressive successes. Alongside their IB studies, this cohort have made outstanding contributions to the wider aspects of school life during their time at NAIS Hong Kong.  

We wish them every success as they head off to a wide range of international destinations.”
