一個中學生在一個暑假的時間會有甚麼轉變？人長高了？還是打波游水太多人曬黑了﹖還是熱衷在網上世界，令facebook或 Whatsapp的朋友名單人數增加了﹖但對畢業於瑪麗醫院「暑期義工大學堂」的學生義工來說，他們的「變化」不只於此，一個暑期可能是是其中一個人生階段的蛻變。

自二零一零年開始，每年暑假瑪麗醫院都會舉移為期五星期的「暑期義工大學堂」活動，為中學生提供健康大使訓練、健康教育及推廣活動，同學仔又會探訪病友、為探病者提供院內引路服務、亦會為醫院個別部門提供支援工作。過去幾屆「暑期義工大學堂」的畢業生都有以下的發現和體會﹕今個暑假真的過得很充實和有意義；原來自己是有能力去幫助人，而那種感覺是很美好的；發現原來醫院義工是很重要的，因為病人很需要別人的關懷；很欣賞自己及其他暑期義工的投入和用心服務的態度；五個星期的服務實在太短了，期望每一個暑假都能參與此計劃。

這個大學堂讓不少「九十後」後生仔能以更立體的角度重新認識醫院、病人、醫護人員和自己；並且作出多項突破自我的新嘗試，策劃活動、帶領遊戲、健康教育推廣、Teen夏主播等等，相信這段日子將成為他們人生旅程的一段難忘回憶，過程雖然艱辛，但仍覺值得。暑假期間，若然你途經瑪麗醫院，碰上正為迷路訪客指引道路、向病友介紹藥物資訊站運作、又或者在病房為病友送上關懷的年輕人，懇請你上前向他們打聲招呼甚至打打氣，並放心讓他們協助你，因為這正是他們參加此計劃的原因。

基督教聯合醫院與靈實醫院每年暑假期間均合辦「暑期學生服務體驗計劃」，安排完成中四或以上學生到基督教聯合醫院參與為期六星期的義務工作，讓學生藉此機會了解醫療服務的運作，加深對醫護行業的認識，從而擴闊視野及更了解自己的興趣與能力。
整項計劃除安排參加者到基督教聯合醫院或靈實醫院不同部門或病室工作外，亦會透過講座、研討、參觀等項目，讓參與者對待人處事及生老病死等課題有更深的體會，達至個人的成長，對有意投身醫療行業的學生是一個難得的學習機會。
