Change in application policy for ESF

Effective from August 2017, Year 1 and Year 7 Central Admissions process for August 2018 entry will be a ‘one form’ application system for ESF primary and secondary schools including Discovery College and Renaissance College. Parents may only submit one online application per child with their selected preference of schools. Subject to final approval by the Education Bureau, the application fee will be HK$2,000. School zoning (http://www.esf.edu.hk/esf-zones/) applies for ESF primary and secondary schools based on residential address at the time of application. Discovery College and Renaissance College remains zone free. Details of the 2017-18 admissions process will be available from the ESF website in late June 2017.

I notice in the FB of RC that processing og applications for year 2 onwards will be changed to align with ESF, see below quoted from FB:

"Applications for Y1 & Y7) will also be launched in the summer of 2017. That is to say, applications for RCHK (Y2 to Y6 and Y8 to Y12) will become open all year round as of the ESF's.
Please note that this means we can no longer assess almost all applicants (non-Central) as we strive to do now (when we limit the number). We will have to adapt the (ESF's) first come first served approach and may assess a smaller number of applicants only when needed, based on the actual attrition of each year group. i.e. The wait-list will be shorter so as not to dampen the applicant's opportunity with other schools of their preference."

It seems there is a slim chance that RC may adopt similar procedure for year 1 as the esf foundation schools, and if so, that would be good news for esf kinder students. We shall see.

Logical thinking who initiate this new system is in favor RC to be more selective on ppl who are putting it as first choice.

I wonder will RC admit a 2nd choice ESF kids OR a first choice non-ESF kids when both pass their interview??

Priority policy apply on "interview" priority, is it also apply to "admission" policy?? I doubt...if anyone can ask RC...but not sure if RC will reply on this...

This policy is sure not in favor of esf kids..unless they can clarify all these points

By logical thinking, as each student would only have 1 chance and 1 offer within the ESF system. It is much more likely those who have offers would accept, thus it would be less likely that the waiting list candidates would be able to get the places eventually.
It's more crucial to get the NR then for the ones who have passed the interviews but still waiting for the offers.

Maybe I should call RC admission as well.

If PIS is more selective, I believe all the applicants will apply foundation school instead of PIS so that to secure a higher passing rate? Unless you are very confident in your kid has a high academic level which could pass the interview from PIS?

So, it is very critical if schools arrange visits to esf kindergartens prior to the actual interview. The lady in phone couldn't confirm me on this.

If it's the case, it's not that pessimistic to their new policy. But it's quite different from what I got from the admission office a few days ago...
I asked the lady if any interview/offer from the second and third choice if the kid passes the interview of first choice but no offer due to over subscription, she replied "unfortunately no". Not sure if I didn't ask the question properly and there's misunderstanding, or they amended the new policy (but it's still not finalized yet)?!

I actually suggest the applicants should still have interviews from three kindergartens as now, but only one offer will be granted accordingly to the preference stated. Yet if they confirm all ESF schools share the same standard, i.e. you pass one ESF school = you pass all ESF schools, then I think it's very close to what I expect.

However, I saw from here that PIS now is not non-selective as other ESF foundation schools. If based on what the admission officer replied to you, are they going to change their policy to be non-selective?

I do think there were that many of these people unfortunately.

Can't imagine if there are many of these people and they are also parents...... too selfish......
