advise for small b (oct 2012)

My child is in esf K2 now unfortunately he received no offer from esf Y1 for 2017/18. Given he is small b (born in oct 2012) he is not eligible to apply most other Y1 international school which requires age of 5 before 31 Aug 2017.

Can anyone advise me what options I can have now? Repeat K2 in Esf??? Other school opening available?

Your kid was is esf kindy? No interview chance from both esf school and private school?

Honestly I was quite disappointed with esf and will not appeal. I will turn to other school now.  I am sure esf is not the only way out for my child.

I know a child repeated K2 in ESF kindergarten and is Dec baby.  You may talk to the school for options. This was a few years ago.

My son was born in Sept 13 and he's studying at K1 in an IS right now, coping well and willing to socialise, only that his English speaking skills 'needs improvement'. Now we got an K1 offer from another IS (our 1st pref) starting 2017 which means he has to repeat the grade while others move on. He seems ok in his class right now, so I requested for a K2 interview although the cut off for that school is 31 Aug. Do u think I'm doing something stupid? I don't want him to repeat, and personally think there is no need esp in an IS environment.

I also want to say if your kid can perform well in the interview, no matter how small is your kid, she or he will be accepted. This is more likely to happen in international school than local school I guess. My kid is late December kid and he still got offer from more than 2 good through train international schools, one is ESF. We didn't possess any passport, NR nor sibling priority in both schools she got offer. My feedback is the admission will really count on the kids ability to give out offer, and the school will still reject those kids who fail to meet their requirement even they got interview with guarantee places. So I think it's somehow fair and we have hope, though it's always luck which depends on kids performance that day.

I had wanted my son to wait one year and be a big b for next year, but ESF would only look at the birth year and you do have to apply within the year they specify and it's not up to the parents. They specifically told me it's unlikely he'd be allowed to wait a year, unless they see him this year and the school decides he's not ready.

Check with Anfield primary their cutoff is Jan-Dec

No, I paid NR for KJS as I thought my girl had little chance to be picked be RC at that moment!

Depends on the school. Some schools has cut off date on August 31 etc but some school like ESF takes students born within the year. My daughter who is a small B (born in November) will be going to ESF Y1 in September.

His age is not applicable for year 1 yet... application year is 2 ...

They have nursery and reception class now at Tin Wan

To add on, kjs replied me they don't care about your recent school report (they never take mine as part of the assessed but asked us to bring along with it) they claimed they will only observe the child's performance during that one hour interview. If your child happened to be shy or not willing to co-operate, follow teachers' instruction, you are likely to fail the interview regardless how active your child is in school.

After I read the message about the disappointment from the ESF Kindy, I would like to change my tone to present what the magic happen to my daughters. Before that, I always tell my friend that how perfect and wonderful is ESF kindy. But after reading the other parent's comment, I thought the magic will only happen if ur kids are just fit with ESF! My daughter had applied many local famous kindergarten, due to small b effect, he is very shine, not willing to talk so that she did not got any offer! However, she kept talking as usual at home when she attended the ESF Kindergarten interview! Ofcourse dye to her good performance, she got the offer. Her small b effect still affected her at most of the environment (shine, no initiative...) but only not at school! And same scenario happened, she felt comfortable in RC and even raised up hand to answer questions during the interview.  (I believe that it was because she could feel ESF culture there)  So she got RC offer eventually which is totally out of my expectation. ( I even had paid 50 thousand as deposit to buy NR when I know she got no SJS interview offer )

My daughter is ESF kinder last year and she is a small b too (Nov). Our case last year is got no interview offer from SJS but interview from RC. As I know that RC's interview is a selection basis, I did not make too much expectation. At that moment, my best wish is my daughter will have chance to get a place to repeat K2. But the kindergarten said it's not likely to offer this place normally. So I will vote for repeat if the kinder offers a place to repeat. Actually, small b effect seems significant to my daughter till now!!
